All of written history is 10% bias, 40% bull**it, 10% spin and the rest is fact. Getting to the facts can be tough sometimes. The fact is that Unions have deevolved into part of the corruption that plagues the nation.

The fact is we have to do something about corruption in our government before any reforms of any kind will work at all.

Big money and big business need to be held to the same standards we have to live by. Nothing more and nothing less.

If I started a large factory I would make everyone sign a labor contract that says they have a right to be a member of a union BUT they do not have the right to inflict their collective bargaining on me or they will be fired under breach of contract. How fast do you think I can replace anyone I fire? Do you think picket lines will stop people from working to feed their families?

Power to the people!

...and thank you for making my point. The left are the ones who weakened our nation with their lack of responsiblity & rebellious COUNTER culture mentality, & now they just can't admit they were wrong. They still want to fit a square peg & a round hole. LOL laugh

just here to help!

The left blames the right
The Right blames the left
Dogs are blaming cats and there is plenty of blame to go around.

The fact is it is all of us. You, Me, Everybody!
Instead of whining about the problems we face why are we not coming up with answers?

because...

nobody listens......

everyone feels like a minority or victim of the system.

it is so us vs. them...

How about this,

how can we apply pressure to the powers that be instead of whining all the time about how bad the left or right are??

better yet how can we screw them like they have been screwing us????

People have had great ideas in the past. For example dealing with big oil...

A brilliant mind did some math and figured that if all of America stopped buying gas for one week the losses they would feel would total in the billions. This would also have had a ripple effect on OPEC in the demand of oil spiking down suddenly. The problem is get enough Americans to do this to make the plan work.

No I did not come up with this one but it was brilliant except for American apathy.

Here is one I really like.

I have hated Wells Fargo with a divine if not religious passion. They are greed incarnate. The picture they use should have the stage coach driver pointing a shotgun at the customer. How about giving big banking a message by making a run on them and have as many customers as you can convince to take their business to a credit union instead? I absolutely love my credit union and the other bank I deal with treats me with respect. How about health care. Imagine what it would do to the industry if EVERYONE stopped paying their insurance suddenly to protest the cost of it.

Americans are not organized in general enough to be able to do stuff like this to force the markets to play fair.

OH but what do I know? I'm a despicable centrist!

False!

The unions along with the Federal government and their regulations have run them out of business!

News yesterday said that the new administration passed law that allows Commifornia, Or, Wa as well as most of the New England states to set their own regulations on emmisions that car makers will be forced to abide by. Do you think that will help or hurt the already ailing US Auto industry???

Can't you see that this is all talk? This has been going on forever the last 20 years...NAFTA...GATT... all the uneven trade agreements. the sell out of corporations, AMERICAN ones...for the cheap labor etc etc. the influx of illegals hurt the working class & continues to.

Rockefeller Reps ...Limosine Libs... don't you see they are all the same?

What I don't understand is why everyone bashes the religious right when they have moral integrity & a conscience to do what's right?

For all that to happen quick, and for Globalization to be successful, the Unions had to be eliminated. One by one they have been.

Think about it!
Think about the main condition the Senate tried to place on loaning the Auto Industry money.
They tried to include the Union workers wages.
Attempting to weaken one of the last Unions left in America.
What right did they have to place that stipulation on the loan?

Because with benefits figured in, the average UAW pay is over $78 an hour while an import worker is closer to the UAW worker's salary (without benefits) of $36 an hour. The auto companies are going down because of costs. Congress was attempting to control costs.

----------------

Unions cause what's called cost-push inflation. If everyone gets a higher wage, then the cost of business rises. Rising costs of business mean higher prices on goods and services. While the higher wages help the union members, it hurts everyone else, even those that perform Union jobs (like myself) in non-union states. It is detrimental to the free market and goes against the good of the whole even.

While unions had a purpose years ago in setting worker's rights and things like the 40 hour workweek, but just like so many other practices, they have outlived their purpose and now cater only to the greed of the union while they declare they are fighting the greed of the white-collared.

I am guessing it entails something with a high barrier to entry. Judging by the spelling.

lol. I'm just curious because he makes slightly more than me and pays $300 less a month than I would for medical and I get no pension. All the while, my job requires extensive knowledge to keep up on everything and expensive ($40k and counting) tools to do that job. not to mention that southern california is not not known for it's cheap cost of living.

That's how my friends know the union. People in my area try to get in the union.

Why do the same job and not be in the union? Electricians, painters, plumbers, nurses, teachers, grocery store, and more.

I have a friend that is a non-union heavy equipment operator. He is trying to get into the union's school for that field so he can do the same job in the union. It's difficult to find good paying non-union jobs in that field.

then the problem is the union. Unions force their influence on the industry by disallowing jobs to be given to those that are not members of the union.

Exactomundo!

It has nothing to do with "being united", "collective bargaining" and such, as proponents of unionized labor like to assure us.

Remove that little thing, and it crumbles down. Government cannot create anything but a bubble or a disaster. Everyone understands how the bubble in housing worked. Well, with unions, it is the same bubble. The incentive is the government support for forceful bargaining, by not allowing any competition, either through forced agreements, or through beating up the new/replacement hires.

I didn't say that anyone was disallowed jobs. I said it was difficult to find "good paying" jobs in that field not difficult to find jobs in that field.

I know union and non-union painters, brick layers and a heavy equipment operator. They make a lot less money and don't have the benefit package that the union people in the same field have.
