Topic: Layoffs | |

Layoffs at work today. They didn't stop at my desk today, but a number of friends were walked out. Good people, mostly.
It's always better to have a job than to not have a job. But it still makes me sick to my stomach to see people walk out crying and scared and wondering how they're going to get by. I hope things get better, but I don't see it. |

It's even affecting the Postal Service, they just changed my hours and days off and they are talking about cutting deliveries to five days a week.

The IMPORTANT thing is to NOT wait until it lands on your desk to find where you can get help. Getting a part time job gets your foot in the door if you do get laid off and before all the part time jobs are gone. It is important to get your paperwork ready to apply for assistance programs and writing a current resume. |

They laid off about a quarter of my firms total workforce near the end of last year, its real sad to see good people and good workers in that situation.
Im not sure Obama is gonna have the miracle solutions that some people thinks he has. My prediction is that the recovery will take years rather than months. |

Such depressing news! Is that all we will hear about for the next year or 2? Yes I said year or 2.. so many companies are poised to go belly up this year... I guess I count myself as a lucky person.. I retired from the Military years ago.. and yeah even went bankrupt 10 years ago.. after that I learned then to live with in my means.. and today I sit and watch friends all over getting the boot..wishing that there was something I could do for them.. If it comes down to it I could let someone live with me till things got better for them.. Have done that in the past. And sometimes its just knowing that maybe they will never have to use it, but the offer is there... it does give peace of mind to them in some way.

I think one of the worst things about it is most of us have been doing all we could in the last 6 months if not longer to pinch, cut back, and save just about every penny we could muster because of the economy.
Then to have management come along and say, sorry, we have to let you go makes you want to throw up your arms and say WTH? |

It is a shame. I spent most of December and part of January making budget cuts... to the bone sometimes... trying to minimize the impact on people. And yet we still lost a large number from my group. Would have been more without the cuts.
I'm not expecting it to get better. Nor am I hoping to be saved. Just sharing a piece of my sadness. |
