i like the ones that have so many requirements that it eliminates virtually everyone.... i look at those and say good luck ...and go on

That's what I'm going for. I've already eliminated 182% of the entire female population, but I won't be happy until I get to 200%.

I really don't understand people's logic sometimes. I don't wanna have to email someone just to find out if they smoke cigs, drink, or what they like to do in their freetime...

Aaah...but see, isn't that kind of like meeting people in the "real world"? I mean I can't remember the last time I went to a bar where everybody was wearing signs with their age, status, height, weight, smoking preferences, sexual orientation and the likes around their necks.
That would be a wee bit too easy, don't you think?

I mean dating isn't like going to the grocery store and picking up a hunk of meat that's neatly labeled.

Ok, first of all - I would never go to a bar to meet guys. Unless I wanted a one-night stand.

Second of all, Online dating is nothing like real-world dating. It's SUPPOSED to be easier! You are supposed to give enuf info to get a glimpse into your life. I'm new to it - but I like the fact that I can weed people out easily & quickly. That's why I'm here!

Ugh. I would never go into a bar for any reason. Well, unless my dog was in there and the place was on fire, then I would. But I don't have a dog so it's really not likely to happen.

I HONESTLY thought it would be easier, too! WRONG! All I learned is all the GOOD ones are 897,000 miles away, and everyone any closer than that is unable to create a profile with more than 7 words.

So can anyone tell me why?? guys do this... Am I right? Or is there a more harmless reason behind this?

I don't look at too many guys' profiles, but I can tell you that mine is 1482 pages long.

Most of the women's profiles I look at -- here and on other sites -- break down this way:

22% are completely empty

21% say "I don't know what to write here" as the entire profile

17% say "Anything you want to know you'll have to ask" as the entire profile

15% say "I'm laid back and easy going" as the entire profile

[Disclaimer: Numbers made up randomly for greater effect. Real numbers may be different]

The reality is that about 97% of the profiles I've read simply aren't worth wasting the 4.2 seconds it takes to read them.

I don't know if it's just because people are lazy, or can't write well, or what it is -- but I do find it sad that so many completely miss this opportunity to let the world know something about them....

Because I'm certainly not going to be interested in someone who can't do any better than "I don't know what to write here"....

Yeah, guys have profiles just like that. I just skip over them now.

perhaps the people with vague profiles are like me and just don't want to be bothered

my profile cries out "leave me alone"

Online dating is EXACTLY like real-world dating. Even if someone's profile is entirely filled out and peaks your interest, how do you know that he/she is telling the truth? He/she could be lying about everything from his/her age to his/her marital status. If you're new to online dating, please be cautious. I'm not trying to mother you...just don't assume that online dating is easy. It's not.

The only difference between online dating and meeting people in "the real" world is that you might run into folks that you might otherwise not have a chance to meet. Someone you would check out in a crowd but would never approach and talk to.

As for getting back on topic and talking about vague profiles...I met a guy on another site last year. His entire profile was blank, short for one picture. We ended up dating for 4 months despite the fact that he lived 2 1/2 hours away. So you see...it doesn't matter.

slaphead slaphead slaphead slaphead slaphead

LOl I actually looked at it too and well must say I did expect more actually myself.

Honestly as far as the internet being easier to find someone myself I sure have not found it to be true. I would rather meet them face to face to get to know the person then online. For online you can not see their reactions and really get a feel for who that person is. bigsmile

I get hundreds -- because I'm fairly close to Chicago -- but not a single one who ever posts in the forums.

E-mail? Pffffft. Waste of time, they never answer. I've written 2 books -- so I can probably create a passable e-mail -- it doesn't matter. They never reply.

And their profiles are always of the "I'm a fun person who likes to have fun" variety.

Wonderful! Now we all know why YOU'RE here. However, other people have absolutely no interest in "dating" for various reasons. There are people here who actually see the site for what it actually is -- a socialization and friendship site. You need both of those in order to find a "date". If it was only a matter of just showing up, picking out somebody to your liking, and then leave, we all would've gone home by now (if, indeed, that was the reason they were here in the first place).

Strange is it may seem, it ain't all just about you.
