HA HA HA

While Rush is enraged and FOX wags it's finger at democrats over the appropriations bill the truth is out there.

According to the Congressional Record, where you and I can find the list of earmarks in the omnibus spending bill and you will discover that three of the top five earmarking senators are Republicans.

Here's some truth for you from the good folks at Taxpayers For Common Sense.

um, no. it's under 40%.

Either way, it's wrong. I'm glad McCain is calling everyone on them but I hope for his sake that he does not give in to them as well.

Bush started the stimulus package. The package is 40% Republican.

The bad earmarks are 2% bad with the rest being good. Obama is too busy with the good package part to worry about the 2% bad.

Then...like someone showed me....

Consider that even if you take the earmarks exactly as the Republicans say, add them up, they total 7.7 billion.

and then 7 billion of more than 700 billion is not much.

At the same time, it was declared by Obama that he would prevent all earmarks. That means that even if congress passes a million bills and there is one earmark for $10, he still went back on his promise. it may only be $7B but that's still a lot of money that can be spent elsewhere.

as a sidenote, does anyone else find it funny that we just throw around numbers in the billions now like it's no big deal?

I believe that he's doing his best with having such a short time to do it and trying to take care of both sides.

Billions is a big deal. I can't even imagine what it looks like!laugh

11,034 earmarks in fiscal year 2008.

only 2005 had more since 1995.

FACT — EARMARKS EXPLODED UNDER THE GOP-CONTROLLED CONGRESS: When Republicans took over Congress in 1994, there were 4,000 earmarks on appropriations bills. At the end of the 109th Congress in 2005, there were 15,000. [Washington Post, 1/25/06; The Gavel, 1/28/08]

FACT — CURRENT 110TH CONGRESS HAS CUT EARMARKS IN HALF: “As promised when they took control of Congress,” in 2007, “House Democratic leaders cut in half from last year the value of earmarks in the bill, as they did in the other 11 agency spending measures.” [New York Times, 11/4/07]

ok, what about us that didn't want bush and don't want obama, people like me have to suffer through you guy's partison fights and take the crap. i keep hearing you guys echo the same things that the anchors on tv are saying. well he's only been president for just so long, we should give him a chance. people, it takes me 10 seconds to do the math on this bailout and stimulous crap to know what the result will be. there is no way that obama, even being you guy's messiah and all, can magically make 2+2=8 there is no way. if someone comes in to my office and has an idea, i can determine pretty quickly whether it is going to work. some of us don't have to sit and watch someone go thru the motions to find out if the idea was bad. some of us understand the basic principles a bit too well to agree with bush's/obama's bailout bill.
