Footprints in the Sand - Poem

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?”

The Lord replied,
“The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you.”

so why is it hard to see this?

I believe that as we get closer to the Lord we are able to see
through Him.

I love that verse and have a shortened version hanging on my porch door.

Even our Lord felt like this on the cross according to the scripture when he said, "My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me." One of the things he said was that I must go but I will send the comforter. He said if you will draw nigh unto me that I will draw nigh unto you. I know the more I go to church and be among other people the less alone I feel. The less I feel that my neighbors just don't like me. One of my neighbors blowed his horn as he went by my house. It was I know you are there.

My grandpa just had surgery to remove cancer, and this poem is a constant reminder to us... our family prayed over him, and our pastors visited, and it was just such a blessing to remember the presence of the Lord among us as we prayed... i love this poem :)
