That's a bit unfair. It's only part of the story, and not a lie.
But Maybe the fuller version of the story is in order?

President Barack Obama, during a visit to a Caterpillar factory last month, said the company's chief executive, Jim Owens, had promised to rehire some workers if Congress approved the president's economic stimulus plan. But Owens later said more cuts were likely before the company could start hiring again, and that a stimulus plan was unlikely to have an effect on the economy until late 2009 or early 2010.

Hi Tjn, I don't know why Obama didn't say that, I don't know that he can, or needs to, it's not like we can't get the story ourselves. I don't think he deliberately decided to keep that a secret just so he could make people that don't like him, like him even less ...

I was thinking today, why don't people just give the guy a chance and let's see where it goes. But that isn't possible I guess with those that just plain don't like him or his policies or both. I can relate to that because I never thought Bush would be a good president. But again I gave him a chance to prove me wrong.

Here I see people daily and repeatedly post things to counter ever step he makes, I just don't see the point in that I guess.

Don't know why others can do the same for Obama that we did for Bush. Give the guy a chance..

I feel sad that you have no hope or optimism. I know that though times are tough even for me, I don't see focusing on what I 'don't' have. I won't lose my home because I saw this coming 5 years ago and did what I needed to do. Now I can wait it out. Hunker down is too pessimistic a word for me.

And I have hope for everyone that Obama touches.. Just two ways of looking at it and I prefer the optimistic view.

Well we can agree on one thing at least, Leaning to the middle. Frankly I don't have all that much respect for either side, they haven't proven what they need to to me at least, not yet.

Maybe it's my refusal to give up hope, maybe I just want to see things from a more positive view.. I don't know some days, but I feel like what other choice do we have right now but to give him a chance.

I watched the news endlessly from the time Bush came on the scene until Obama was elected, then I just plain turned off the news. I can't depend on any channel or radio station to just plain give me the damn news with out opinion, so who knows if they head of Caterpillar was being totally honest, it all makes me nuts anymore. I have to preserve my sanity and either chose negativity or optimism at this point.

For me, all i can do is try to keep my head above water and help my neighbors, we are all doing little things for each other to keep our spirits up, and it's working. I guess I just choose hope, and I understand why people chose Obama and the word hope even if it's being ridiculed now. He's not a god to me, he's not a Saviour or anything but a man, and I sincerely hope he does well even if I don't agree with all his plans and policies. I certainly didn't agree with everything with other presidents either.

I do understand what your saying, I can only hope we come through all this as 'people', even if Obama can't possibly do everything everyone wants. What breaks my heart is to see the divisions between parties that can't possibly make things run smoothly or calm the fears of the people. But then we as a people have responsibity too. well before I ramble much further... Thank you for responding TJN

I don't have a problem in the slightest about what you just said. My home is paid off too, in fact my car as well. And I didn't pay cash for either. In fact if it were not for Fanny Mae I would never have been able to get a home. So for all those that look down on the people that bought homes they might not have gotten loans on other wise it's a crime to make blanket judgments. Many of us have gone on to own two and three homes and many of us are now debt free.

I also know what it is like to be homeless, just much earlier in life, and it taught me humility, I am grateful for that experience though I would never want to experience it again, so I have great empathy for those who find themselves there now.

I think the only thing I would say about those that thought they were secure, is that one should never allow themselves to expect things to always remain the same. I was lucky I just happened to be paying attention to the times and things happening around me, my intuition told me things were not right, and I did what I had to do before losing everything and ending up in the same place.. That doesn't make me a saint, just lucky that I already experienced being down on my luck in my life and recognized the signs.

He should tell us the whole story! He is our president. He shouldnt just pick a part of it that sounds good to try to sell something. And might I remind you it is our tax dollars he is playing with. To me by President Obama saying what he did and not the whole part of what the president of caterpiller said is like saying I won $100 dollars on the lottery but not telling you I spent $500 before I won $100.

Besides, he is so clever, he actually said "save or create". To be understood as without Obama, Caterpillar would lay off twice more.

He promises things that can not be quantified. Wanna "Change"?
