Iowa's ban on same-sex marriage has been found to unconstitutional!

The Iowa Supreme Court this morning upheld a Polk County judge’s 2007 ruling that marriage should not be limited to one man and one woman.

The ruling, viewed nationally and at home as a victory for the gay rights movement and a setback for social conservatives, means Iowa’s 5,800 gay couples can legally marry in Iowa beginning April 24.

There are no residency rules for marriage in Iowa, so the rule would apply to any couple who wanted to travel to Iowa.

Shelly Wolfe and Melisa Keeton, who waited for word of the ruling outside the Polk County Recorder’s Office, immediately called their pastor anyway to make plans.

“We’re going to make it legal,” said Keeton, 31, of Des Moines.

Wolfe, 38, and Keeton, who is 21 weeks pregnant, went through a commitment ceremony two years ago. Their marriage certificate was among the 26 that were put on hold when Polk County Judge Robert Hanson’s decision to open the door for gay marriage was delayed until the high court could weigh in.

I really proud of my state Supreme Court for use using common sense, ignoring the hateful discrimination against gays and allowing equal human rights to prevail.

Dang this topic sure has gotten around.. LOL

I am happy for those that are happy about it, as I have said before, but I remain sceptical until there is not chance for society's religious to turn it around.

I have never understood why gays are not afforded the same rights as anyone else to marry. The religious will have you believe that it will be the destruction of the American family. Funny, I always thought if anything was destroying the American family, it is the high divorce rate. It appears that this ruling will remain for at least two years as the process to have the Iowa constitution amended requires it not only to be introduced, but they need a high majority for it to pass, then they have to have it pass for two consecutive sessions. It is not likely to get a majority vote at least until after next the election as democrats support the ruling and have the majority. The religious right will likely try to find some sort of underhanded way of trying to overturn it.

Maybe the truth is it should not to all be blamed on those that are Religious but in fact blamed on the majority of the people that have voted it that way. For in fact if I'm correct there are many gays that are in fact Religious. And those that I know that are Religious their views on gay marriages are in fact about 50% either way. Just because they do believe in a Religion it is not wrote in stone anymore as far as what ones rights should be due to they are gay.

Yes there are many that in fact think the old way but just as many that have in fact took the time to see that regardless of ones sexually behavior they should in fact have the same rights if it was due to color.

A lot of the reason it has not been voted as a go is due to Society and the way people are raised to believe.

Just the fact that one is Religious it does not mean that those that are not Religious think that Gays should have that right to marry the same sex. noway

I mean one can not say that all Atheist believe in same sex marriages.noway Sure they may not see the same reasons as those that go by the Bible. But in no way does it mean they think it should be okay.

So give credit due to the majority of the people that in fact can see beyond how they were raised or even to those that raised them to be able to in fact see people as people not what they are or who they are. Rights should be equal across the board for all. JMO~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~bigsmile

And it will get repealed countless times, and everyone will go back and forth over it. I'm tired of hearing about Iowa already, its a horrible state being so close to Canada which means its always cold. laugh
