Do you substitute words for curses to tone them down? Why?

If the meaning is the same, wouldn't it feel better just to say the word instead of having to make up something to make it "pretty"?

In certain situations the actual words seem a little crude and the substitutes get the meaning across without the vulgarity.

Depends on who I'm around. I still show my parents and certain family member respect by not cursing in front of them.

There's no freaking way I am going to substitute some other word in a spot where a good old fashioned curse word needs to be.

I try to curb the use of certain words, especially around kids.

BUT... there are sometimes I really need to say the word instead of making it PC. There are days when "oh darn" just doesn't cut it. bigsmile

It is very unattractive when you are out in a public place/restaurant and your woman is swearing... or in front of kids...

If I see you swearing in front of kids I'm calling you out on it.. I don't care who you are.. or think you are..

I have a good friend is super PC.

Instead of saying something simple like "Oh, hell", she says "Oh my heck!" It kills me every time!

I'm not meaning someone cursing like a sailor on leave... but there are times when it happens. Sometimes not even intentional.

I cannot swear in front of children or people I consider my "elders". I am 37, and still apologize to my grandmother if I say even the mildest curse while in her presence.

I try not to curse most of the time. But the occasional four letter word slips out. I drove 2 hrs to spend the weekend landscaping my sister's yard. Sunday, before I loaded up to come home, she was thanking me for making her yard look so good. And I said, "Damn, I'm good, ain't I?" just to be funny. She had a fit and severely reprimanded me for "swearing on the Sabbath". Oh puhleeeeeeaze! This from a girl who picks and chooses which commandments she wants to follow!
