I guess no one around here knows anything about gossiping. ![]() if it's gossip you seek, i got nuttin. but if you want ideas on why... it makes people feel better about themselves, they like to be bearer of news that could possibly cause harm to another. it's generally mean and spiteful and some people just thrive on that. i avoid it like the plague and generally those into it. Yes, the question I asked is why. Thank you for the answer. I find it impossible to avoid and I do try. it is hard to avoid, i'm usually a 'the buck stop here tho' kinda person. ![]() |

I try to keep the drama in my life to a minimum. That doesn't always work as I can't control the actions of others. I can only control my reaction to others. Save the drama for TNT.

Ahhh yes. Gossip. Conversation of negligible information value which primarily concerns itself with private or personal details of others lives. Gossip is the lowest common denominator in pecking order behavior of the troop.
Gossip is both a waste to generate and a waste to hear. In human relationships pecking order should not be so important. Worse, gossip does harm. Wrong speculation can and has caused extreme pain to others for no reason. So there is little if any upside and very significant downside in participation in gossip. So....Why do it at all? ![]() |

Where do we draw the line on what is passing news along to a friend and what is gossip?
Gossip isn't intended to do good or really just indifferent. Gossip spreads rumors. Gossip is when people come to their own conclusions as to someone else's motives or happenings in their life. Passing news is simply... passing news. |

Gossip isn't intended to do good or really just indifferent. Gossip spreads rumors. Gossip is when people come to their own conclusions as to someone else's motives or happenings in their life. Passing news is simply... passing news. agreed and the validity, as well as, if the individual(s) on which the gossip is about would be OK with the information be passed on. |

You make it seem like the line is always clear. Sometimes the distinction between news and gossip is not so clear cut. I'll leave it to you to figure out examples.
However, I do agree with the the idea that gossip is harmful. Yet a large percentage of people engage in it anyway. Can any of you honestly tell me you've NEVER gossiped? Probably not, yet I'm sure most of you think of yourselves as good people. What does this tell us about human nature? |

I think it started when they had those magazines...the ones like ~Country Living ~Backyard Living ~Apartment Living and then someone thought of.... ~Vicarious Living ![]() I really don't know many people here so I am not involved in any gossip here...I really don't have a social network where I live...my friends all live pretty distant from me...the only 'real' gossip I hear is on TV...and I don't know any of the people they are talking about personally...so is that even gossip? |
