I have an honest to goodness serious question. Do u have to be licensed in order to grow ur own tobacco? Are there any kind of regulations that make it illegal for a regualr person such as myself to actually grow tobacco in my garden? I'm curiousshades

In most States you need a permit, though, and in ALL States there are licensing and tax obligations to meet before you can sell your crop.

It would seem to be legal. I found this site that offers a good bit of info on doing so. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/AA260

I'm curious also if anyone knows what are health risk of home grown and smoked tobacco vs what is commonly found in cigarette. We hear about all the poison in cigarette smoke. I'm curious if most of those are natural to smoked tobacco itself or from the additives in the manufacturing process.

Through the little research I did online before decidin to go to stuffin my own ciggies, the 'organic' tobacco now bein sold is suppose to be much better health wise although still risky.

I'm definitely thinkin that it would be interestin to start growin my own. Perhaps even start alil co-op.shades

they don't have the additional junk added that is for sure...but it takes a lot of work to grow it...from what I have read. I roll my own the way you do it too.

It doesn't seem to me that it would be much more work than growin ur own garden. I mean if ur already growin a buttload of veggies in ur garden how much more trouble can a row of tobbacco be?? I know ya gotta cutit, hang it, an let it dry but then it's basically just choppin it up right? shades

Due to the needs for proper harvesting and curing tobacco, there is very little home or garden production of tobacco for personal use. Another deterrent to home production of tobacco is the need to age the cured tobacco for one to three years or longer.
