Okay. Here's a question. When a woman says she's looking for a smart man...

Does she want a guy that can outscore the contestants on Jeopardy, or a guy that would be a champion on The Newlywed Game?

Neither....we just want them to dress nice! lol!

Hmmm... Is corduroy considered 'in'?

In my experience -- and this is a statistically limited sampling -- "I'm looking for a smart man" means "I'm not looking for a smart man, I'm looking for a guy with a large hole in his back where I can insert a steering wheel."

Or, to put it another way: "I'm looking for a guy who I can change into the kind of guy I want." Of course, you can't SAY that because it's a huge red flag and no one would reply. Well, almost no one.

This begs the question of why not just LOOK for the kind of guy you actually want, instead of trying to find one who isn't and then CHANGE him....?

But maybe there's no challenge to that....

I don't know. As I say, my experience is not statistically significant. Your mileage (and steering wheel) may vary.

Now, I have to potental to say incredibly stupid things at any moment. I think a comment concerning women, steering wheels, and driving skill might be right up there with the best of them. I know I shouldn't, but the thought is there and really wants to escape from my brain mush.

I have a problem with someone who claims to be unique and then goes on to write exactly the same thing everyone else writes. That does not conform to my understand of "unique."

hahaha .. I feel that you are not so patient person but will come day when you going to understand that ppl are unique in their stupidity also ...
and sometime smart ppl are more funny in their claims and pretensions than "smurt" ppl

You'd be surprised how many people have written to me and said "After reading your post about profiles, I decided to go back and look at my own and make some changes."

hmmmm .. this is bad ... now these profiles are not their true reflection of what they are but "make up" profiles .. lol

Now, if you want to say, "Well, this person has unique DNA nucleotide encoding patterns!" then, sure, you've got a point. They usually don't say that in the profile though.

hahaha about DNA - god knows ,maybe one day they'll find the chromosome or its inhibitor of our human's stupidity ..lol

think

I operate under the assumption that everyone is different. I just don't see why so many are so committed to hiding it.

But is this really an issue? -- I mean, profiles are all "made up" anyway -- I'd rather see one "made up" with some individuality and some thought put into it than a cut-n-paste from someone else's....

The whole point of the "Rate My Profile" thread is for people to have their profiles reviewed; with the hope that there could be some feedback about how those profiles could be improved....

If editing, if fine-tuning a written piece somehow causes it to be less than what it was originally, there are going to be a lot of editors, proofreaders, etc., out of business. One must make the distinction between a change for the sake of IMPROVEMENT vs. a change for the sake of....what, a higher level of mass acceptance? A greater likelihood of potential responses?

And I can imagine some changes that might accomplish both.

I'm really more concerned about the Bad Profile Gene at this point....

That's what I thought it meant! That's what it SHOULD mean! (Operating under the assumption of "say what you mean, mean what you say"!)

But no -- the reality is very very different....

most people don't say what they mean or mean what they say; they operate under random assumptions. and then, as someone once told me, "the truth is only the truth at the moment's it spoken."

Or -- and I'm going to mangle this a little bit, in order to make a point -- "the truth is only the truth insofar as it's the truth someone thinks someone else has to hear in order for things to be perceived the way the first person wants them perceived."

-- i.e., not necessarily the "truth" at all....but now we enter into the realm of the politician....

this has happened to me before; the guy tries to make himself into what he thinks i'd want based on preconceived (and usually wrong) notions. but sooner or later, his true self comes out and ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. best to show your true colors up front; saves time and unnecessary hurt feelings.

Exactly. Why can't anyone do this?

Why is it that the one who says "I love everything about you!" decides she needs to CHANGE everything about me 3 months down the road? Why the sudden metamorphic demands?

Look, I'm not trying to mislead anybody about what I'm looking for. And, at the same time, I think I've been pretty clear about what I'm NOT looking for. But the ones who write to me are so committed to telling me I'm WRONG for what I want, and they could change my mind if only I would give them a chance!

I'm sorry, but I've already done that enough times to know better!

"Enigmatic Enigmas"????????...Seriously....

Are you TRYING to drive chicks away?

Lex...Dude! I understand ramming home the superiority thing...like I said before...I dummy down A LOT!!!!

Apparently you are gonna hold out for some supermodel who is the spell checker for Webster's and what ever thesaurus you got on the back of your toilet.

Vegas odds say...you are in for a hella long wait.

Loosen up bro...consider taking a woman to an event you ain't no damned good at...(I donno..a roller rink or walking in the park)...

It is obvious that you can rule the conversation.....(I am the same way)...

You gotta at least give the birds a fighting chance before you shoot them down....

Great advice!

No idea. I've never understood people who seek to "change" someone. If someone isn't what I want, I have no interest in them. I don't want to change them; I'm sure they'll do fine for someone else, just not for me. I think it's a sign of arrogance, when someone else decides who you should be. As if they know all and they have all the solutions to everyone's problems (ever noticed their own seem to go unsolved?) As for those who write you and tell you you're wrong and that you should give them a chance, you should point out the obvious- if they were so freaking amazing and able to work wonders, why are they still looking at all???

Been on this site for a long time.

Got lots of good friends but I have yet to actually meet anyone from here in person...

Like I have said before anyone close enough to meet suddenly goes silent when 'lets meet' is discussed.
