I think everybody is a little vain. Some have it worse then others.

My mom used to say that the song by Carly Simon, "You're So Vain", was about my father when he was younger.laugh

ithink i may know what you are getting at.

you mean in terms of feeling compelled to slather make up all over you all the time and be extra finicky about clothing and fragrance and lotions and stuff.

feeling the pressures of our social standards does not mean that someone is vain. i think that this could be said the same for men with 'are all men lazy?'

i don't think the question "are women vain?" is that similar to "are all men lazy?"

it is a societal norm for women to be concerned about their appearance. women who don't conform are sanctioned one way or another. that's not the case with "all men" and laziness.

anyhoo thanks for the input brian flowerforyou .

I have always wondered about that.

My guess are more are insecure than vain.

Estee Lauder said "A woman who wears no make up is the ultimate of vain." I am not sure if I am vain or just lazy or cheap. I can usually find things I want more than cosmetics but maybe if I had unlimited funds I would buy more.

Not so much vain as insecure. We do makeup and hair and clothes and nails because we don't feel good enough about ourselves when we DON'T do them.

I've often been jealous of men. All they have to worry about is being clean and brushing their hair... and some men don't even do that!

but we don't spontaneously become insecure without reason methinks... doesn't insecurity arise from negative input from somewhere?

why that insecurity?

When one is inundated by images of what society deems beautiful and one does not match that image...
