Hypothetical here......tell me what YOU would do.

You mutual matched with someone local. They email saying they aren't good at typing but include their phone number saying they enjoy meeting new people and to call anytime. Remember, you know virtually nothing about this person, except for a few brief words on a profile.

personally i hate the phone, so i'd feel wierd calling anyone, especially some guy i knew nothing about. i guess if you're comfortable talking to him instead of emailing, go for it.

^^^ laugh Guess you liked your response so much LastMan, you had to quote yourself, eh? laugh

NO, I would absolutely NOT call! However, if it intrigued the hypothetical person greatly, I would say call...BUT...be sure to use the "block your number" feature when the call was placed.

As a woman, I could understand hesitation.

Now if one of you women were to email me a phone number and say "call any time," you bet I'd do it. Why wouldn't I? I mean I'll take a chance on meeting someone, beats the alternative, I can sit home and type on a computer anytime. Besides what's the worse she could do? Kill me? Well, at least my computer dating woes are over then. There's a bright side to everything, you just have to look.

I'm here to ask people out, and I know I'm d*mn tired of spending my evenings talking to no one. All that adds up to GIVE ME SOME DIGITS!!!!

If I was that interested I would offer to go off site, then engage in voice chat. I would not give out my number nor would I just call someone on first email.

I would NEVER call or ask someone to call, only after 1 e-mail! I'm just not that kind of a guy. We'd have to have at least the following before doing so:

27..... e-mails
16..... Smoke-Signals
34..... Western Union/Telegrams
17..... Tom-Toms Signals from high mountain top(distance depending)!
23..... Carrier Pigions
04..... Sky writings
73..... Instant messages (yahoo or other)

Then, we might chat on the phone! Providing she is still around after all that!

 Pigeons....ewwwwwwww......bird poop!

I think men would be more willing to call someone they don't know as opposed to women.

I understand the fact that some people just aren't good at typing and doing the whole computer thing. I'm just not sure it sends a good message to potential dates that you aren't willing to take the time to have a few conversations via email before you talk on the phone.

Anybody that you would potentially want as your friend would understand you explaining that you didn't feel comfortable calling or giving out any personal information after only a single email. You should suggest any number of other avenues.... IM from here, IM on yay-hoo, voice chat on yay-hoo, or any number of other 'more safe' methods of contact.

And if they don't see it your way, then politely decline to take it any further.

Explain that you'd be willing to call after a bit more conversation online, and leave it at that. If he is willing to do that, then give a call. (Be sure your number is blocked though)

Its about compromise, give a bit, get a bit.
