I was arrested by the sherieffs department in El Paso Tx on the 12th of december. I bailed myself out and missed my court date. I live in Las Vegas and rescheduled it from there for two weeks later. Missed my court date again and now have a warrant. I was arrested for possesing 1/2 a gram of weed. I had just arrived in El Paso around 12pm at night and was looking for somewhere to sleep. I was in a grocery parking lot that was stil lit up but was closed and then a few cop cars surrounded me and told me to get out of the car dont shut of the engine. Their was a bunch of them and dea. I have searched the internet and spoke with one lawyer and its a big deal in Texas(in vegas its a ticket), the failure to appear makes it worse . I had planned on going to college and do not want this to affect getting a job or playing college football. I spoke with the Bailbonds and they told me I had until the 8th of september to come down to El Paso, pay $180.00, and get my court date reinstated. This is the only time I have been arrested any advice would be really appreciatedwhat

go pay your fine, reschedule the court date, and dont take any weed with you this time, and then actually show up to the new court date. Pretty simple.

you may have been in a known drug area there which would be why they were all there. you need to do as your lawyer said. when you miss court dates, it makes it look like you are avoiding it

should I go down there? I have saved up money and really dont want this to stay with me. NORML's site says its 6 months in jail or $2000.00 fine or both for texas and failure to appear is a seperate charge.

thats what I planned on, my sister works at a lawyer's office and thats where I got some info, both her and my mother say dont go down there its not a big deal, im thinking I can just get it out of the way and wont have to worry about anymore no matter what happens

ok...if you don't show for the court appearance...then the warrant is still there and if you get in trouble again in another state (I believe) they can see the warrant in Texas. your sister REALLY says don't blow off the warrant???? seriously? you have to own up to it and deal with it. you will probably get probation and like said before....suck up and say sorry. but a warrant isn't something to blow off

Thinkin maybe someone on the site had a similar situation and maybe resolved it a different way or it just would go away after some time

Nick...I know it's a hassle...but you need to own up to it. I believe it takes a few years for a warrant to drop....can't remember for sure. My step dad is a retired cop down here...BUT I believe it still goes against you and can be used if you get arrested again somewhere else. it's not as big as you might be thinking....although the skipping doesn't help. just go there and take care of it. IMO they would be easier if you go down there on your own and not have to be drug down there.

Speakin as a former deputy sheriff here in MS, a warrant never goes away, doesn't matter if it's a misdeamenor or a felony. U get pulled over anywhere even for the smallest thing, first thing the officer is goin to do is have ur license run. It's gonna be run thru their local databases an NCIC for any kind of warrants. U will be taken in an u will have to answer for it. Doesn't matter if it's a year from now or 10 yrs from now. I seen it time an again. People thinkin the warrant would go away. It's gonna follow u, no matter where u go. Best thing to do is face it, be apologetic in front of the judge an take whatever punishment handed to u. A misdemeanor offense will not follow u the rest of ur life, a warrant will. And for gosh sakes, dress appropriately when u go to court. That's the one thing a judge looks at when u first appear in front of them. Dress pants, dress shirt an a tie with dress shoes. Show up in a tshirt an jeans an ur in for trouble cause he's gonna see u as not takin things seriously.

Texas is pretty tough on drugs (there isn't even medicinal pot here) especially near the border....just remember that next time

Trust me, having been a cop...do exactly as your told! Any other action otherwise, will only get you deeper in trouble! Misdemeanor/felony...doesn't matter! When your ordered to do something...it is/was in your best interest to do so. Sounds like, with you missing 2 court dates(regardless of excuse)you need to work on your priorities! I'm not trying to be negative...just giving some good advise...from someone whose been on the other side of the fence! Good luck...remember, you and you alone make your own destiny!

here's what i'd do:

call the police department where the warrant is issued from. ask for all the details: how much it's going to cost, all the fines and fees and whether or not you can take care of it without showing up.

send them the fine. pay the fines FIRST...the warrant might take care of itself if the fine is paid, including the warrant fee. if not, they'll most likely OR you out if you've already paid the fine. paying the fines might make it so you don't have to appear in court.

last, it might be a good idea to...be clean in texas. hmmm...
