to have a clue yourself before you start handing out advice like after dinner mints? Or should we just say whatever crosses our mind? what

I would think so. I mean, for instance, I wouldn't pay any attention to someone giving out advice about divorce when they've never been married themselves.

I think it's wise to be educated or experienced about something before dispensing advice. If I'm NOT educated on it, I'll say it's just my opinion or keep my mouth shut all together.flowerforyou

I love giving advice on brain surgery, thing is, I know nothing about brain surgery.

So it is a wise practice while not strictly necessary? After all we are free to consider the source...

I give advice , if I know from experience

I give my opinion a lot. I always let it be known when it's an opinion

I personally find it necessary yes, but obviously not everyone does. We should always consider the source of our information bigsmile

Yes, it is funny how people who actually know so little can know so much as soon as their computer is powered up. Thank goodness for the internet and wikipedia. Now we no longer have to have any education, common sense, or experience to weigh in on any subject.

Thoughts and perspectives should be taken into consideration individually, from each source. And each source has its own placed value and weight is placed by me... as a result of the credence I place on the source.

I take the advice of the children at my school, I also take it pretty seriously when they say "Miss, you know nothing."

anything anyone has to say about anything is subject to interpretation and perspective anyway..if I think I'm knowledgeable on a subject, some one can perceive it to be hog wash anyway..

eh, it doesn't matter -- people on the recieving end of the advice will pick and choose to listen to what they want to hear...

Interesting thing about mingle... you will get many different perspectives - although one might be insightful and good - I have noticed people tent to belive the advice they want...

to answer specifically, who are we to judge? I like to post on some topics, not on others... it's what the site is for, eh?

 drinker

p.s. I love the soft, chewy after dinner mints... :) not the crunchy ones...

You remind me of something my 7th grade social studies teacher, Mr. Fau, said. The older I get the less I know. I've found that as I get older, I'm less willing to give advice or even an opinion on many topics whereas when I was younger I would ALWAYS need to weigh in... I suppose that stems from Mr Fau's words of wisdom...
