I really think you should change the "heavyset" option to "plus size". I think a lot would agree with me.

I see no difference whatsoever . The old terms were fat and very fat . Now it is political correctness . Most people would say this person is fat and not plus size .

Heavyset isn't gender specific, plus size is; not sure if men would be comfortable calling themselves plus size.huh

i think they should use both options. a plus sive woman can have 0 fat and be every bet as sexy as a woman who isnt but heavy set means just what it is ....too big for ones frame.

How can a person be a plus size and, have ZERO FAT? That is preposterous. We all have some degree of body fat.

Well, ya can be fat/overweight w/ out being heavyset. Heavyset is a large boned and overweight body type. Just plain 'fat/overweight' is something you gained out of your normal, personal range.

Agree w/ Calleigh12 that plus size is a gender specific,. Plus sizes are also wide in range ... so not even possibly accurately descriptive.

In the overweight range, it would be best descriptive if there should be these options, w/ perhaps the parts in parenthesis conjoined:

1. Few extra pounds (5 to 15 extra range)

2. Fat/Overweight (20 to 40 extra range)

3. Obese (More than 45 extra range)

4. Extremely Obese (More than 100 xtra range)

Many of us that would click 'fat', myself included? We instead choose a few extra pounds, as it is the best descriptor when ONLY given 'few xtra' or 'heavyset' as options. There is no in-between selection, that could better describe that status.

Some of the truly obese that choose 'few xtra'? Dunno! They must use the 'few xtra' option as opposed to 'heavyset', as they recently gained obesity, it was not a body type from birth, they are not big boned and/or they are in utter denial/delusional!

I think many of us would be relieved at being able to give the honest answer that closest describes our status.

This always cracks me up. While I appreciate that some people don't care for the word fat, isn't it just reality?

Why do we get all bent out of shape over these choices? Yes, of course fat is subjective (as is plus sized, heavyset, voluptuous, BBW, curvy etc etc), but must we continue to try to micro-label it?

I've had men actually say to me "you are NOT fat". Ummmmmm, hello? I don't say it because I want attention, or because I have low self esteem. I say it(when needed) because it's TRUE!

I don't believe that any one person on here is incapable of making the correct choice for their body size. Some try to be more politically correct about it. Some try to downplay it. Some actually say they are bigger than what is actually true. It's all a game, but deep down it's really not that hard to make a choice when you are honest with yourself and the numbers on the scale.

Not to try to minimize the OP's feelings on this, but I myself just don't see the importance of changing the word.

That's great that you have the HONEST option you need to check/state, and that you own it also!

There are stages on the way to and in between few lbs and heavy set.

It is a real shame for those of us that fall in those categories, that haven't anything honest to check. It makes it a lie either way.

You likely agree to that too, since you are also honest and in acceptance. ???

Hence, my suggestions that I'd love to see also offered in the options of profile settings!

Duly noted. You look like a few extra pounds to me! Now that sounds rude if you didn't read the posts above...laugh

We could always just post our size and weight, but that would be going a bit overboard wouldn't it?

Hey, what about vertically challenged? I always thought I was supposed to be taller!

Seriously, I did listen to you and see where you are coming from. You need an "in between". Gotcha. flowerforyou

First of all, I know that I'm fat. Its no big secret. I dont care to be fat. Its not an insult to me so sorry if some of you were trying to offend me. You didnt. I mean I care about my health and I've lost 40 lb and am still losing weight. All I am saying is that I think women in particular would rather be called plus size than heavyset. And plus size DOES mean too big for your frame. Im not denying that. For all yall ignorant smartasses... I think you know what you can kiss. I'll give you a hint... I got plenty of it! lol.

How can 'plus size' work when plus sizes run the gamut of fitting 180 to infinity pounds?

I'm on your side, but that moniker would also be a huge (pardon the pun ... ...) misnomer.

I understand what you are saying. I think the problem might be that there are too many descriptions and can't please everyone though. I do think that maybe it would be nice to have more options
