Can anyone tell me why a woman with a child is scary to some men?grumble

I think a lot of men think single women are looking for someone to support them and their child/children. Some don't realize that a single woman can do just fine on her own and she is only looking for love.

I'll give it a shot.

When I was younger, I dated several consecutive older divorced women with kids. In every case, the women were not looking for a relationship at all -- they just wanted someone to come in and play daddy.

Through those experiences, I learned that I had no aptitude for, nor interest in, being a parent -- real, surrogate, or other.

These entanglements, and subsequent events, have convinced me that it makes no sense for me to get involved with women who have kids. So I don't.

I don't get involved with anyone who drinks, either.

It's not that I think people with kids, or people who drink, are in any way bad people. It's just that these are things that don't fit into my preferences, my plans.

People are looking for different things. Doesn't make anybody right or wrong, it just means that everyone has different ideas of what will (and what won't) work for them.

Well basically for the same reasons a woman runs when a guy h as a ready made family.

I have to agree with alot of what Lex is saying.

Alot of times the single parent is overwhelmed and looking for someone to help out, this type of person is more apt to settle for anyone.

I know when I first came on the internet dating world I wasn't interested in dating someone that still had kids at home, that opinion has changed after I did date someone that had 2 wonderful children. I found in myself that the maternal instinct was still in fact strong and it was easier since I had already been through it all before.

Or...

...maybe they are trying to avoid the inevitable complications that will arise with the kids and their father.

Playing the role of "step-dad" is a complicated thing, and is different in every relationship.

Easier to avoid it, all-together, for some.

Men or Women, some just don't have it,an the older we get, doesn't make us want it more or less,i do like children, from my own opinion.
If i'm happy with someone, his children are a part of him,not going to deal with the childrens mother! That is not my concern. The relationship will be with us,i will not step in an try to take the mothers spot.

Some men, but not all; I actually would prefer to meet a woman with kid(s)-she knows what parenting is about.

You just said it..some men, not all.

I have always been a single mommy and when I wasn't dating when they were younger it was because I didn't want to.

Now their grown up and I can't find a guy...go figure..

I am right there with ya sportymom79.

I am a single mom and I am not looking for a guy to step in and play dad--my kids have a dad. It seems that some men (not all) get scared of the idea of a woman with kids. I also see that some women get scared with a man that has kids.

I would run toward the hills if I was dating a guy with kids who I felt was only using me as a built in babysitter more than a girlfriend. I also think the whole "ex-drama" can be a bit scary if the two don't have a decent co-parenting relationship.

I believe it is all personal preference.
