How cold is it where you are?

Here in So Cali... Its not too cold. About 58 deg. here. I would hate to think of how cold it is in say, Aspen Colorado or...
[snipped]

It's 12°c here in Houston (TX), but we're batting down the hatches for
a bit of a hard freeze the next couple of days - there's the potential
for snow and sleet on Thur with overnight lows below 0°c (in the
neighborhood of -4°c to -6°c).

The last record low here was in 1996 (for the same days): -7°c
and the lowest recorded temp was -11°c in 1886.
so.....what temp would that be in english ??

:) Nope ... I'm not "non-American" ... celsius just "makes more sense" to me.

12c = 53.6 f
0c = 32 f
-7c = 19.5 f
-11c = 12 f

Fricking cold!!!

We haven't iced up yet (at 4:33 AM, CST) but it's windy effing cold out. And it's supposed to drop still more.

Cold and Texas don't go well together.

NP ... I knew you didn't accuse me of such ... actually, after
re-read my post, I can see how I came across rwong.

I mis-wrote that ... I was actually "volunteering" the fact that I'm
American (most would assume I'm Canadian or European/etc
since I was using celsius) - the "nope" wasn't directed at you.

Ok, now that I've over-explained myself :)

Yep! Here in Cypress (Houston, basically), at about 6am, it was
in the lower-50's F (guess I better use fahrenheit:) now 43f, with
wind gusts to 20mph. Mix of light rain/sleet 7am to noon, with
temps to 36f by 5pm (NOAA). Lows tonight to below freezing,
lasting 12-18 hours - that's the bad part - the many-hours-long
below freezing temps !

Cold and Texas don't go well together.

Agreed! The only reason I own a heavy jacket is because of trips
I've made to VA, DC, Boston, etc

We're finally into the teens tonight, and windchill will bring us down to -5!! Gah! There was black ice out yesterday morning heading home.

We made the mistake of selling the heavy coats when we left Michigan. Dad finally got one of the heavy and thick Carharts when he was working up in Nebraska during the winter. I make off with it whenever I can. Fortunately I have found a couple decently heavy coats down here but my favorite is that Carhart.
