Do you think texting should be allowed while driving a vehicle? Duh! slaphead

Please NOT while I'm on the same road!

Might as well as bring a good book to read while your driving too!

It will not be long before all cell phone use while driving is banned. Here in Texas it is already banned within the school zones.

As of this week a lady here in Texas is taking it up the ladder to have it banned after her mom was killed by someone texting and ran a red light that caused the death of her mom.

Also in Texas it is already against the law for a 16 year old driver to text and drive.

They may allow it as far as hands free devices only time will tell but it is coming to a halt as far as texting and talking while holding the phone in one hand.

Texting and driving KILLS!!! Just like drinking and driving so as far as I'm concerned 3rd offence should be a felony just like a DUI...

What is sad seen where a girl was walking though a parking lot waiting on her bf to pick her up. She started texting him he text her back sad thing he was in the same parking lot driving did not see her going across the area and hit her himself.

Does not matter the speed if one is walking and their head hits the payment after being hit.

They need to keep their eyes on what is happening in front of them.

Myself I do not text hate it if and what little I do it takes to much of my attention to do it while in the car.

To be honest...I've never understood why someone would go through all the texting to someone...when they can just pick up the damn phone, and talk!

It always seemed like a lot of extra trouble to me!

The answer should be obvious.

from here: California Bans Teen Driver Cell Phone Use
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,2183462,00.asp

" According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), teen drivers
are twice as likely to be involved in fatal crashes as drivers age 21 and older."

"A 2004 study from the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety concluded drivers
age 16 to 19 have a fatality rate that is four times the rate of drivers ages 25 to 69."

"According to the California Highway Patrol, cell phone use is a leading cause of
distracted-driver accidents in California. A study conducted by Ford Motor Company
revealed that teenage drivers are four times more distracted than adult drivers
by cell phone use."

from this article: "States tackle texting behind the wheel "
http://www.stateline.org/live/details/story?contentId=188546

"Distracted driving was to blame in 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes,
according to a study released by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration "

"...similar bills pending in Maryland, Texas and Vermont would ban driving hobbies
such as talking on hand-held cell phones, reading, putting on makeup... "

"Thirteen states ban any sort of cell-phone use by either young drivers - usually under 18 -
or those with learner's permits or intermediate licenses: Colorado, ..., Texas, ", ..."

it should be banned , whether you have hands free or not..cell phone use was the reason a woman hit me and nearly killed me a few months ago.

Well, personally...with the "cell phone calls while driving" was bad enough, but come on..."texting while driving"?

That is totally out of the question!

I mean what message is important enough that you/them would risk your lives for?

It would be bad enough to read it, while driving...but to answer it right back, while driving!

I don't know about the rest of you...but I DO NOT have a death wish!

Why not just put a gun in their hands, and play "Russian Roulette"?

It really is a "NO BRAINER"!!!!

Most of us in the thread is against this "stupid actions of dangerous drivers"! Or is that "dangerous actions of stupid drivers"?

Either way...it ain't right!

Hey LULU...waving

That would be a good question...but I think that your not really going to know exactly when that light is going to turn green, in respect to where you might be in your texting conversation!

Better to play it safe, and pull over to the side of the road, or off the road, if it happens to be that important.

You know what they say:

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"!

well, it's illegal here...but i must admit that if i'm the first in line and i KNOW the light, i might send a quick ten-second text to my kiddo letting her know i've left and she should be ready for me.

i don't talk while driving, and i don't text while driving, either.
