"Meghan McCain: Tancredo Statements Reflect Racism

http://cbs4denver.com/local/meghan.mccain.tancredo.2.1481884.html

(CBS)Sen. John McCain's daughter Meghan McCain, who has crafted an image for herself as a voice for young Republicans, took on former Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo on ABC's "The View" on Monday.

At the Tea Party convention last weekend Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), said in his speech, "People who could not spell the word vote or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House -- name is Barack Hussein Obama."

Tancredo added, "Thank God John McCain lost the election."

Meghan McCain said Tancredo's statements represented "innate racism."

"And I think it's why young people are turned off by this movement," she said. "And I'm sorry [but] revolutions start with young people. Not with 65-year-old people talking about literacy tests(a) and people who can't say the word 'vote' in English. It's ridiculous."

Meghan McCain also criticized the convention's keynote speaker Sarah Palin for a seemingly hypocritical stance. Read more about that on CBSNews.com.

Stephanie Condon of CBSNews.com contributed to this report."

Well, there's this thing that happens when one moves their mouse over some of the text and clicks (left click on the mouse)...there are links to explain things in a way one can understand the issue.

I posted a Republican saying this, a Rhodes scholer reporting it, and backed up with documentation on the term "literacy test" in relation to the T-bag speaker's remarks.

once again son...you missed the point...when Conservatives talk about returning to the 50's for instance [ ohhhhhhhh for the 50's was a common refrain of mine in my early Mingle days ]...we're indicating that there was less Liberalism...less government regulation...less debt...NO political correctness...less crime...wonderful childhood memories...summer vacations...little league baseball...how you can go back to the good old days and only come up with seperate bathrooms and water fountains...well...I leave it at that...

I guess those for whom those days werent good would have a different perception. Life is all about perception. One day I might refer to the good old days when marriage was between a man and woman but Im sure those who choose alternate relationships will disagree that those days are so good,,, understandably so. For the sake of argument though, good old days is a term I dont use. When it comes to american history,,,there really hasnt been such a period that existed for all,,,,

lol,,I agree with you as usual Q...I didnt hear any mention of race there and because a LARGE portion of white folks voted Obama in as well,, I cant see a reason to believe the statement was referring to one specific race.

Again, another post that has nothing to do with the reality that we face..

racism isn't spending trillions we don't have.. racism isn't going to create real jobs. racism isn't going to enact huge tax increases.. racism isn't pushing a global warming hoax that will lead to higher energy costs for ALL americans.. racism isn't escalating the war in afghanistan.

just for the record

if we are speaking of racism against Spanish

Spanish is a subset of the caucasian race. Just like anglo, or norwegian, or italian

so its hard for a caucasian to be racist against another caucasian

but when it comes to nationalities I do happen to be prejudiced against mexicans. We, as Texans, fought two wars with them already and whipped em. There hasn't been anything that mexico has done in the last hundred years to change my opinion of em. Even the Texas hispanics are insulted if you call em Mexicans

EDIT: I have a friend who vehemently says "don't call me Latino. Those are all Cubans and Puerto Ricans. And don't call me Chicano. Those are all in California driving low riders. And don't call me Mexican. They all live a hundred miles south of here. I am the by god pure blood decendant of the Spanish Conquistadors and you can call me either Spanish or Texican"

So even among the hispanics there is some prejudice I guess
