Are there any soccer fans on the site? I'm counting down the days until my trip up to Dallas to start the MLS season. Also praying that Newcastle hang on to a promotion spot for next year.

I'm a casual fan.

If it's on and I happen to run across it, I'll usually watch it.

I like the game, but the " flopping " ( faking an injury at the slightest jolt from an opposing player ) at the higher levels is utterly ridiculous.

Let's see if Chris Hughton can keep Newcastle in the Premiership next season. The owner Mike Ashley said he put aside money to spend in the summer transfer window.

I love the game and agree that yes the dramatic "suddenly I'm hurt and have to roll around grimacing in pain to waste time" only to see them get up and run around with no problem, is definitely a lousy part of the game. Even when the team I am rooting for starts that because they're ahead I don't like it. Also the time wasters of waiting to decide who will make the throw in or corner kick/free kick, the keeper taking forever to perform a goal kick, walking slowly off the field when bring substituted, etc. It's all silly and I have seen it backfire on teams when their opponent scores a late goal & if all the flopping didn't happen, they might of had time to counter. The ref keeps track of the time for such things but obviously doesn't account for every second wasted. In otherwords, I agree, heh.

Great Sport. Requires tremendous stamina and skill to play well.
Hockey reminds me of soccer. But it is a lot harder to score in soccer.

I don't follow it much, unless it's the world cup, sometimes check in though. Barcelona is my all-time favorite team.

I also play it and played it ever since I learned to walk. I'm a good goalie or defense, not very good at middle field or attacker LOL..for those I only imagine that I'm good, others disagree.

As many mentioned, I also keep up with it only when World Cup rolls around. I kind of keep track on the standings leading into FIFA 2010.

Question: I see scores that are tied and is the final score. Why does soccer leave it as a tie and end the game? Who wins?

Wins are worth 3 points, draws are worth 1 point to each team, and loses of course are 0 points for the loser when keeping total of points in the league standings.

Imagine a less known less experienced team going against a well known strong team.

Having a tie is better than loosing, so it should be rewarded ..and as the previous mentioned, winning gives points (3) and tie is 1 for each. In the world cup it's different, since it's a championship so any team ends up with equal points must go for the extended time and if that fails then penalty kicks so one team is definitely eliminated.

Oh I get it now. So soccer isn't about winning, per se. It is about gaining as many points as possible. Kind of like school grades and GPA.
