(Reuters) - The office of Representative Anthony Weiner on Thursday received a threatening letter containing an unidentified white powder, his office said.

"Earlier today an envelope containing white powder and a threatening letter was delivered to my community office in Kew Gardens," the Democratic congressman said in a statement issued by his office.

"My first priority is the safety of my staff and neighbors, and the authorities are currently taking steps to investigate and resolve the situation," he said.

Weiner's office in Kew Gardens, part of the New York City borough of Queens, was closed for investigation.

Authorities were responding to the site, and no other details were immediately available, said FBI spokesman Richard Kolko.

The FBI and police are investigating attacks and threats against Democratic members of Congress who voted for healthcare reform, and a senior House of Representatives Democrat said on Wednesday his colleagues are at risk. Weiner voted in favor of the legislation.

Bricks were tossed through the windows of one member's office, another lawmaker was spat at by a protester on Capitol Hill and another was the target of a racial slur.

The House gave the healthcare measure -- President Barack Obama's top domestic priority -- final congressional approval on Sunday. Obama signed it into law on Tuesday.

Emotions ran high among opponents and supporters during the yearlong debate over the legislation."

It's nothing more than POLITICAL THEATER. This is deflecting the blame away from their VOTE on DeathCare to SOMEONE ELSE. How else did they handily 'happen' to have TEN 'craps who had 'received death threats' IMMEDIATELY after the vote? They also 'happened' to have 'reporters' [sic] who were all too eager to 'report' the 'news' that these little wussiebabies were having people say nasty things to them for the vote they cast to destroy the best healthcare system in the world. Sorry, all the 'craps are ... well, full of the same thing ... waaa-waaa-waaa ... people are sayin' nasty things to me, mama ... make them stop! What wusses ... it's par for the course, tho' - they're pros at putting on political theater. Remember Chicago '68? Or the 'rent-a-mob' that automatically pops up at WTO meetings? Please ... this is too shallow to be credible ...

I don't agree at all.ALL of these incidents are terrible. Threats, spitting, vandalism, shootings now possible Anthrax? This is sick. Someone is going to get seriously hurt if not killed over nonsense.

I also don't think all of these are connected...... I think possibly this started with some insane people trying to pass them selfs off as Republicans attacking Democratic leaders who are responsible for shoving this bill down our throats. After seeing this im sure some of the insane anti war protesters figured this would be a good time to attack Republicans who push for stronger national security, that way it would seem like it's related to the health care bill......

These people are all insane and unfortunately it will take someone getting seriously hurt or killed before they step up and realize that members of the House and Senate need to be better protected.

This was reported by the FBI and who's "deflecting"? the HC bill isn't enough but it's FOR progress...what are these people who are doing all this chit "for" anyway?
