Topic: Admiral Mullen on Iran Nuclear Threat | |
---|---|
President Obama's principal military advisor said Sunday that all options are the table for dealing with the Iran nuclear threat and if the President calls for military action, the U.S. is prepared.
At a forum at Columbia University in New York, Admiral Mike Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff stressed, however, that "use of the military should be the last option" should diplomatic engagement and sanctions fail, because any attack against Iran would entail serious "known and unknown consequences." Responding to press reports that Defense Secretary Robert Gates has warned in a memo to top White House officials that the U.S. lacks an effective policy for dealing with Iran, Admiral Mullen said, "We at the Pentagon, we plan for contingencies all the time and certainly there are [military] options which exist." He said he has worried about a nuclear armed Iran for a long time because of President Ahmadinejad's unbridled threats against Israel and "worry that other countries in the region will then seek to, actually, I know they will seek nuclear weapons, as well." When asked whether giving more time to diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis put the U.S. military at a disadvantage in maximizing any potential strike against Iran, Admiral Mullen said, "it is being taken into consideration in the decision calculus, if you will, to strike." He said that clearly there is "not much decision space to work in," because Iran "having a weapon and striking [against Iran] generate consequences that are unpredictable." http://liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/04/18/admiral-mullen-on-iran-nuclear-threat/ Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran.......... |

No matter which nation takes action to prevent Iran from going nuke, the consequences are NOT going to be pleasant. First thing to expect is gas prices in or above the $7/gal price range. That's at the very low end of the response scale. It all goes downhill from there. Don't expect the US to do squat to prevent Iran from developing their 'peaceful nuclear power'. The muzziephile apologist who sits in the 'big boy' chair will be too busy telling Al-Jazeera how much he 'stands with the muslims'. Israel will have to do this if it's going to be done - and if they do, it will be WITHOUT our assistance. It would not be surprising to see the current 'C-in-C' [sic] to issue orders that our AWACS craft send radar intel to Iran so as to prevent a successful Israeli operation. Remember, during the Iran-Iraq war, the US provided satellite data to BOTH sides. One other aspect to consider is that Israeli F-16i aircraft will need to cross US-controlled airspace to fly into Iran. Again, it is not beyond suspicion that the 'C-in-C' [so to speak] would issue 'no-fly' or 'shoot-down' orders if the Israelis disregard his directions. There are too many sides to this issue to be able to estimate with any degree of confidence or precision what will happen - the only thing y' can take to the bank is that IF the flag goes up, the fun will have just begun ...
