Since someone can put put on megans law for simply showing their breast(female) at a protest or (mostly male)getting drunk and taking a piss how does megans law "help" the community NOT to mention megans law violate civil rights.
As i have already outlined someone who is on megans law isnt necessary a "peodphille" so yes EVERYONE has civi;l rights.
My question is this.If megans law is upheld what is to stop the government from imposing the same restrictions on all of us in the name of "PUBLIC SAFTEY"
As ben franklin said those who give up liberty for security DESERVE NEITHER.
PLZ all comments be based on a LEGAL stand point not an EMOTIONAL
one.

It's my understanding that Megan's Law just means that sex offender's addresses are now public information.

They gave up that right when they broke the law and became a sex offender. As a mother, I want to know if a pedophile lives on my street. It's a safety issue for my child.

Once you have been convicted of a felony many of your "rights" are revoked. Once you have broken the 'rules', the rules change...

If megans law is upheld what is to stop the government from imposing the same restrictions on all of us in the name of "PUBLIC SAFTEY"

It almost appears as if you have something to hide... anyway, the Constitution does not specifically mention a right to privacy, so it's more of a moral issue. A sex offender apparently has NO morals, so.... ?

win first THANK YOU for your comments.Wouldnt you want to know if a murder lived on your street.Second the law you can NEVER "lose" your rights. You can temporary hav them withdrawn(ie. being in jail)
THRID how does knowing "a sex offender" living near you makees you safer????
Remember someone can be on there for just exposing their breast.

Hummmmm the way the law is if you are caught urinating in public or exposing ones self then they have in fact broke the law...............Bottom line is don't break the law and you want have to do the time.... For those that choose to break the law then they should have thought about the consequences prior to their actions. Keep it covered up or be ready for the actions to follow.....

If you read Meagan's Law this is a Law that is used mainly if these actions are within the presence of a child. I'm all for the Law myself.

But regardless if one chooses to expose themselves in public then they should have thought of the consequences that may follow.

Although I do understand the law and the reasons for it, I also understand the OP.

We have an example of the same thing here and they are working on changing the laws here because we have college kids here who put pumpkins on their heads and run through the streets naked in Boulder for Halloween and if they were found out they were put on the sexual predator registry for life.

That is a bit extreme for streaking, I think.

I have a serious question.
Are you on the registry? If you are, what were you charged with?

The registries state what the conviction was.

The registry is a bit of a joke once in awhile, especially if you get put on it for getting drunk and streaking. Not to say we should do away with it completly, but we do need to look at the law and how some (note; few) convictions shouldn't make it onto the registry.

Sorry to say, but as soon as you break the law you forfeit your rights...regardless of what law you broke. And it will haunt you for the rest of your life in most cases.

This is a issue that needs to be dealt with.It seems like any sex crime is treating the person like a child molestor.I remember a family put photos of their child in the bath tub just as a scrap book on facebook for grandpa and grandma to see. They ended up getting charged with child pornography.Clearly the majority of the families out there have photos of their children with their shirts off when they were toddlers.I do not consider that child porn espcially if it was in a family scrap book.I remember reading another story of a man walking in the woods nude.He was a well know nudist not bothering anybody.Someone saw him and reported him and now he is a registered sex offender. There has been similar instances with women laying on the beach topless.Someone complains and there was children around so she is now a sex offender. We all know stupid people leave windows open and walk around naked or undress.A man just happends to be walking by and sees this woman and she calls the police and he is a sex offender now.

I am not speaking up for sex offenders.I believe it should be mandatory castration for people who rape and a swift death to those who molest children. But lets face it your life is over if you are labeled a sex offender.Nobody will hire you, nobody will rent out to you, nobody will want to be around you.You might as will put a gun to your head and pull the trigger.Such a terrible price to pay for the crimes I mentioned above.

I am also tired of this double standard when it comes to women.A woman can have sex with a 13,15,and 16 year old many many times and she gets probation. It isn't but a week later she is back in court because she had sex with a 13 year old again and she gets 20 days in jail.If that was a male he would be looking at 60 years to life. There is no way a male would get probation.Something is wrong here.

Judge judy was sunbathing topless on some beach and got caught. There was many photographs.I suppose it's only fair she should be registered as a sex offender.
