New technology has put more folks at risk of being maimed or killed by drivers who text while driving.

I believe, it's as dangerous as driving drunk or high on weed.

I also believe it should carry the same felony conviction as driving under the influence.

I hear commercials asking folks not to text while driving. I can see all of them giving it up voluntarily. Yeah, right!slaphead

in oct i was stopped for a school bus and hit by a car going 60 mph and catapulted into four other cars, so i'm told i don't recall that, i just couldn't figure out why i was in spinning around...for some reason my daughter's friend we pick up was sick that day so she and my daughter weren't sitting in the 3rd row seat, which is now located underneath the middle row seat, and i'm pretty sure they would be dead.
my granddaughter didn't want to wake up that morning so i had my mom come over and stay with her and her car seat was broken in half, so i'm pretty sure she would have been killed as well. pretty much the only thing left of my van were the seats my son, daughter and i were in. thank god my kids were just sore for a day or two, but i'm pretty f*cked up and go to physical therapy twice a wk at $100 a pop, spent $9000 for a new vehicle, and another $200 a month for meds....and the chic that hit us stated in the police report she was texting and never looked up...she walked away w/out a scratch...one day i won't be p*ssed off anymore, but i'm not ready to let go of the anger...

oh yeah i have insurance but no one wants to pay til i get released from the dr who says he'll release me when i'm back to pre-wreck condition...lol at least i don't have to sleep standing up anymore...

Man, that sucks!

Was she charged with a felony? Did she have to make restitution and/or pay your med and hospital bills?

Yup...I call em drifters.....lollygagging at variable speeds....left laners too...oblivious to other people spotting them talking or texting and driving eratically ....And when I blow the horn at em they look at me like I'm crazy or something. Put the cell phone away people before u kill somebody.

They do have voice to text now. And I believe Illinios made it law to use hands free head sets. I know its still a distraction on the road but I think its a lot like drunk driving in the sense that people think they are invinsible, not gonna happen to them.....

Too many drivers choose to willfully ignore one simple reality: A car is no different from any other lethal weapon. A couple tons of unguided metal IS a weapon. If the 'driver' is texting or having an argument with their 'significant other' (I don't care if they're using a Bluetooth headset), they're NOT paying attention to what's happening around them or what they're headed toward. They have ONE responsibility when they get behind that wheel - to return themselves, their passengers, and the vehicle they're driving to their destination in the same condition it was when they left. I'm really sorry to read of the way you were affected by this uncaring little piece of walking protoplasm with the empathy of an amoeba. Good luck with your recovery - I hope it's quick. I sincerely hope you decide to sue her sorry asss before the statute of limitations runs out ... and I hope you win.

In Co. they have recently passed a law stating that it is illegal to text while operate a vehicle. I think it's a great and it should be treated like drunk driving. The problem I have is they still can talk on the phone , eat while driving, and put make up on driving. Everyboby thinks they are a good driver. If so why do we have so many accidents? ( not counting poor road conditions) My car recently had to go to the shop and I had to take the bus. I don't mind taking the bus, but as I sat there at the bus stop I notice that there were 28 people talking on their phones while driving their car. These were the cars that were coming at me. I had to wait for the bus for 10 min.( I get there early to drink my coffee.) Driving requires your undivided attention. Your world is not that important to put other peoples live in jeopardy. Please stay off the phone while driving.Don't eat while driving, and please don't put your make up on either. All these habits that you have are bad plain and simple.

I am appalled at your way of thinking. Now I am NOT condoning the woman's actions BUT.........it was a mistake!!! You have never made a mistake? I think the guilt alone has to be miserable for her. Yes, she should have to compensate this poor man for what she caused but SUE? Everyone is so quick to jump on that....wow....2 wrongs do not make a right. Why so much anger toward her when she did you no wrong?

I understand the frustration and anger. What happened is truly horrible. However, it sucks that someone would hope a mistake would follow someone their WHOLE life!!! would you feel the same if your wife, grandma, daughter ect was the one who caused all of this?

You have NO idea what situations I have experienced in my life. I believe in forgivness. Holding in anger is not good for anyone.

I agree texting or talking on a cell phone while driving is a huge problem.

I also believe that simply passing all these laws is not going to stop the carnage.

Technology got us into this mess, Technology needs to get us out of this mess.

Most devices have GPS.....this should be able to sense when the device is in motion and should deactive when going over 10 mph. Just an idea.

Pass a law to make the manufacturers solve the problem...

You're absolutely right ... I don't ... just as you have no idea about what I've experienced in MY life. I forgive those things that are forgivable ... if the OP chooses to forgive this person, that's up to him ... I'm just sayin' I WOULDN'T and I would exhaust all legal avenues open to me since 'the system' will obviously take the side of the person who CAUSED the drastic impact on my life and health. If, in that circumstance, you'd choose to forgive 'em and just keep smilin', well, that's your choice. I'm saying it would NOT be mine. I do believe in choices and consequences. She CHOSE to text 'n drive and affect another person's life and health as a DIRECT result of her decision to engage in reckless behavior ... ? Fine. PAY FOR IT. It's the LACK of consequences that encourages people to CONTINUE acting this way.

I hope you find it in your heart to forgive. I am sorry...not trying to cause drama. Just trying to give my opinion. If I had caused that I would never want to drive again or forgive MYSELF. I would have given you every penny I had. Drove you to all doc appt if you let me.
