Alright, here it is.
My plan for a solution in Iraq!

I would pull all the American Troops into garrisons along the Iranian
border to keep the Iranians from interfering. Then let the Iraqis pick
there own government.
I would leave the walls up around the green Zone to allow the current
leaders a fighting chance and then see where the true leaders come from!
Whoever won, I would support financially and maintain sufficient troop
strength along the border with Iran until they could stabilize there
country themselves. No matter what kind of government it was, I would
create a fiendship with, and stay out of their internal affairs!
They would be forewarned to not attack American troops and I would make
sure they understood that if they did they would feel a wrath that would
make what has already happened to them seem like a picnic, and we
wouldnt help them rebuild or protect them from the Iranians!

Fanta what do you think would be the reaction of the Shia. Would they
not immediatly cut your supply lines so that Iran could waltz supplies
across the border with ease.

How many troops do you think it would require to secure an 800 mile
border, insure security to your supply lines, provide air superiority
over the border (to do this properly your aircraft must be able to fly
into Iranian airspace - a violation of their soverignity and no easy
task).

What do you think Iran (and the rest of the Arab world) would think of
massed US troops on the Iranian border? Even if you announced your
intention would you be believed? What would the reaction of the
Russians be? You would be setting up a possible attack on a Russian
neighbor. An attack that would place you in a position of direct
confrontation with Russia. EVEN IF YOU ASSURED THE RUSSIANS YOU WOULD
NOT ATTACK THEY WOULD HAVE TO MASS TROUPS THEMSELVES 'JUST IN CASE'.

Not to mention... OK mention. As soon as you pull troops out of combat
zones within Iraq to defend them on the Iranian border Al Quieda would
start moveing across the Syrian border... Unless you plan on putting
troops along that border also. (which would open a untirely different
kettle of fish) and be subject to all the same problems associated with
the placing of troops on the Iranian border. Just how many soldiers do
you plan on drafting to make this pipe dream possible.

As far a the OP. Jeeze lets make some big deal out of an historic fact.
WHENEVER A COUNTRY IS THE BATTLEGROUND FOR A WAR IT IS ALLWAYS UNSTABLE
FOR 12 TO 60 YEARS AFTERWARDS. A fact of war. (Nother good reason to
abolish that perticular beast).

Ah yes stable Islamic countires if you include murderous dictatorships I
guess there are a few. Iran, Syria, to name a few. Kuait is one and
the UAE, are a couple of the more stable less radical ones, but for
every "stable" one there are several less than stable ones controlled by
the radical extreme. My point remains, most of the top ten are rulled
by Radical Islamic Governments and they are killing one another in the
name of Allah. Iraq under Hussain was stable, if anyone made even a
small ripple they were killed, but I guess that is acceptable to the
liberal mentality as long as there is stability. I guess you could also
say that Cambodia under Pol Pot was stable, and that the USSR was stable
under Stalin, and that Germany was stable under Hitler, and China was
stable under Mao.
