The Arrow of Time ==========>
They like to call it "progress" ==========>
I call it "corrosion" ==========>
The entropy ==========>
The enemy ==========>
Decay; a way of change ==========>

"Take a Number" ==========>
So neat, so organized ==========>
So civilized ==========>
"Next!" ==========>
But civilizations come and go ==========>
"The Rise and Fall" of this or that ==========>

A - Z ==========?
1 - ? ==========>
"Freeze it!" but no ==========>
You can't do that ==========>
A day in 2000 ==========>
(Or was it 1999?) ==========>

The fallacy of "moving forward" ==========>
A lifetime of slipping away ==========>
"Let the dead bury their dead" ==========>
An endless circle? ==========>
Relentless metamorphosis? ==========>
Into who, and what, and why? ==========>

Id like to take a moment
To sit still
And breathe
And be who I am
For a second, maybe two

But the clock says No ==========>
You can't do that ==========>
Linearity demands ==========>
You walk blindly, unquestioningly ==========>
Into Oblivion ==========>

("No offense, you understand ==========>
It's just the way things are ==========>
The way they have to be.") ==========>

But what if

Beautiful. The moments we are allowed to simply exist are so rare. I'll aim to take more of those and be productive in the way I want to be not the way society tells me to.

The piece is rooted within some questions I've been pondering for the past week or so.

Answers are another matter entirely.

In many ways, I see "society" as nothing more than entropy with nicer clothes.

Thank you!

I've never been comfortable with the idea that "This is the only way things can be" --

Great thinking Lex. I like to think that I can toggle back and forth as I see fit and sit perfectly still when needed.bigsmile

Wouldn't that be great, though? I think this is one reason I like Julian Barbour's ideas about time so much....

Those were actually intended to be a little unnerving. I like the idea of playing around with non-standard characters in a poetic framework. It's hard to do it coherently, though. I mean *f%$d30++++[x!!1~~~LT^^yh##)( really doesn't hold up as poetry. It looks more like my ex-wife's attempt to make a shopping list.
