House Democrats Hit Boiling Point Over Perceived Lack Of White House Support

House Democrats are lashing out at the White House, venting long-suppressed anger over what they see as President Obama's lukewarm efforts to help them win reelection - and accusing administration officials of undermining the party's chances of retaining the majority in November's midterm elections.

In recent weeks, a widespread belief has taken hold among Democratic House members that they have dutifully gone along with the White House on politically risky issues -- including the stimulus plan, the health-care overhaul and climate change -- without seeing much, if anything, in return. Many of them are angry that Obama has actively campaigned for Democratic Senate candidates but has done fewer events for House members.

The boiling point came Tuesday night during a closed-door meeting of House Democrats in the Capitol. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) excoriated White House press secretary Robert Gibbs's public comments over the weekend that the House majority was in doubt and that it would take "strong campaigns by Democrats" to avert dramatic losses.

"What the hell do they think we've been doing the last 12 months? We're the ones who have been taking the tough votes," Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. (N.J.) said in an interview Wednesday.

Obama's recent promotion of comprehensive immigration reform and a South Korea trade deal exacerbated those tensions, pushing issues that do not play well in conservative districts. It also angered liberals who see little hope of passing those issues through the Senate and are tired of watching endangered House colleagues forced into tough votes.

One House Democrat compared their relationship with the White House to the 1970s Life commercials starring "Mikey," the kid whose brothers trick him into eating the cereal. "There's a sense that's the White House's attitude toward us," the lawmaker said. "And now, Mikey ate it and he's choking on it, and there's no appreciation."

They're actually MAD about not getting his " support "???

Considering his approval ratings right now..I would think they would want to distance themselves from him as much as they possibly could.

Hell...LET Obama " support " their reelection efforts.

It only hurts their chances when he shows up.

They have been saying "The Republicans might take over in November"??? laugh You think? The Democrats are going to get a beat down so bad in November they are going to lose the shirts off their backs.I think the public in general are more aware and more politicaly active then ever now.One thing they all seem to be saying is the Democrats have to go.

Well...having looked around this place for the last couple of years...

I can only hope you are right.

There are still an awful lot of people out there that want the government to do the " feel good " stuff instead of what's good for the country as a whole.

Unfortunately, even if the Dems do get slapped around in November, the others won't take over until January 2011.

So we can pretty much count on full amnesty for all the illegals....cap and trade will get passed...and any number of other things that will keep the economic destruction going because they will have absolutely nothing to lose.

The only hope then, would be that the Reps get a big enough majority to repeal some of the crap that will get passed.

But....I don't think any new people elected will have the courage to undo what has been done. They may do some squawking about it pre elections....but nothing will come of it once they are in office.

The only way Obama has any hope of getting re elected is if the Republicans win back the house.

You can't play the blame Bush and the republicans game when after 4 years you've done nothing to fix the economy while controlling the white house and congress..

I personally would like to see Pelosi stay the speaker with about a 3-5 seat majority.. Then come 2012 we can put them all out on their sorry *****..

What amazes me is that they admit they dutifully went along with the healthcare plan despite constituents wishes........did they do their job by the people that hired them.......they should all lose office

Personally, I think we should start anew with the whole friggin lot of 'em. I hate politicians even though I was one. Only a commissioner mind you, but even the corruption and self-served politics on that level was enough to make you vomit day-glow!

The way I see it, Obama asked the dems in congress to "fall on their swords" for his agenda. They did, some willingly and some for a price in pork for their districts, and some unwillingly. Now the price for their actions is being extracted, and he is privately laughing about their stupidity and trying to pay lip service to their sacrifice. Just goes to show that, to Obama, all people are expendable as long as he gets his way. Wait and see how many cabinet secretaries and other top level administrators are going to fall on their swords to protect him in the next 6-8 months. Absolutely no loyalty by him to anyone except himself. He reminds me of the fairy tale "The Emperors New Clothes."

Make no mistake, this is the equivalent of a 'bloodless purge' ... he's not upset by the fact that a lot of the 'sword swallowers' are of a less-than-liberal persuasion ... matter of fact, he's COUNTING on them to be replaced in the 2012 election with even MORE hardline Leftist / Progressive types ... this is just the completion of the 'useful idiot' cycle of the Communist playbook ... The 'useful idiots' only find out their true function AFTER they've served their purpose ... they're expendable - but they're too stupid to realize that before reality slaps 'em upside the head ...
