I was just wondering how prevalent scams are on Mingle2 and if anyone has any stories to share. I got a match not that long ago that I found a little bit suspicious to say the least. The lady that matched me claimed that she emigrated from a country that is notorious for mail order brides and other such schemes. In fact, she mentions that country more than once. Also, she claimed to be near 50, but the photo shows a much younger woman, maybe 30 or so. I deleted the match right away, even though I tend to give a response to anyone who acknowledges my profile, no matter how incompatible we may be. I'm curious, have people used this sight for scams, or have I watched too many true crime documentaries?

I haven't been bothered YET by scammers, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I get 'em in my email accounts, so they'll eventually work their way around to here as well. Rule of thumb: Ignore / Delete / Block / Report. As for watching too many docus, just 'cuz we're paranoid don't mean they ain't out to scam us.

Scammers are everywhere.

I've never ran across a suspected profile.

Just use common sense as you did.

Ive heard a couple of horror stories, but mostly because the victim let themselves be led on...you just have to have some common sense and not be afraid to say "NO"...

There are tons of scammers on this site and every other site for that matter. Instead of giving them an instant message, set up an email account for just dating sites replies. Once you get an email from them check the IP and see if it's coming from Ghana, Nigeria, etc.

Not exactly sure where u came up with the figure "tons" for this site. (it is your first post here)

Mingle is pretty on top of any of the nefarieus and suspicious crap if you just report it to admin. Around here, you should be more worried about complete strangers proffessing undying love before you have even laid the pipe.

Not saying that the occasional scammer don't pop up...but, as long as you have even a lil bit of common sense, I dont see it as a problem.

HaHa. I've met a bunch of phony people here that I've caught in lies, back pedaling or self contradiction. I guess it comes with a set up like this lol. My saving grace is that I remember what people say to me, so if they say something different down the road that doesn't match, I call them on it. Just use your head and ask the right questions. A good tip is to hop on the forums. You can learn a lot about a person by the things they post. That's how I figured some of the people out. Best of luck to you.

If your curious about scams read Markus's post on this this. He's a site MOD. If you fee, something or someone is a scame just click on report and the MODs will look onto it. They are pretty good about taking them out.
