don't know a lot about it, but don't let anyone tell you it's satanic, it's not.

Wiccan isn't a new religion; it's been around a long time.

There are a few members on here that pratice it or another form of paganism.

I would suggest purchasing the Witch's Bible as a first read to have the basics.

Good luck on your search for information.

Just be careful - do your research. I've had friends that were Wiccans, and it's not for everyone. It also depends upon the members of the Coven.

Truth is, about 15 years ago Wicca was very popular. A lot of people got involved in it for the wrong reasons. Some of them were just wannabes. As a result, there are probably still a few Covens that don't practice Wicca in its true form.

As Buddha35 said, Wicca is not Satanic. I just know some Covens are less about the religion, and more about personal issues. I know this because I have watched friends leave a Coven to join another....friends that did their research, who are non-dogmatic, and who were in it for religious reasons, not social ones. True Wiccans can be some of the most down-to-earth people you'll meet. (No pun intended....really.) They can be very accepting of others and their views. It can be a very healthy spiritual path if followed for the right reasons. Those who don't just give Wicca a bad name, just like any other religion.

Scott Cunningham is a good place to start. Witchvox.com is a good website for info and local people to you.

"Anything" is to broad a range, need to narrow it down. Also, you can go with the solitary approach, or with the group (coven) approach. Don't get involved in anything you aren't comfortable with.

I have wonderful things to say about the craft, but it's hard to say in a mere few words to fit into a post.

Some things I would like to say is that the craft is what you make it, and so it's different for different people. For me it's a journey. It can be neither 'true' nor 'false' because it's not a statement, it's a journey. It's a means of divine discovery and communique. The "Goddess" and "God" are archetypal psychic facets of the divine and are therefore as much a part of the divine as Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

I only wish that I had been taught this vision of divine communique when I was a young child. It would have changed my entire life in a profoundly positive way. I highly recommend it to everyone, especially parents who want to give their children a deep connection to the divine source of life.

Of course, as I have already said, the craft is what you make it and is therefore different for different people. Thus everyone who views the craft will not see the same visions that I see. So I cannot guarantee that it would necessarily be as wonderful and positive for them as it is for me. flowerforyou

If I were going to recommend books to someone interested in the craft I would necessarily need to recommend Christopher Penczak's entire Temple of Witchcraft series of books. The reason being that these are actual "lesson books" that serve as a great foundation for understanding what the craft is all about. Penczak does not teach in a dogmatic way, and he offers the reader many options for seeking their own path. In fact, his lesson plans are actually designed with this purpose in mind.

There may be better books out there for neophytes, but having used his books I'm quite pleased with them and impressed with them overall. I continue to use them as an 'organizational foundation' even as I grow far beyond what he had originally taught.

Wicca is only a few decades old, created by Gerald Gardner who crafted it with some influences from other older practices. Some even say with slight help from Alistair Crowley.

That is not to say that Wicca is any less valid than any other religion, as they all had to start somewhere.

Actually it's about 60 years old.

Anything below a century is still a few decades when you are comparing religions. Its still just within a life time. Though I'll try to pick my words better next time.

Age doesn't matter when something good comes along.

It is based on far older beliefs, just like the main three religions are.

Wicca is one branch of Paganism. Yes, it's a newer one. The same can be said for some denominations of Christianity. Or sects of Islam, Catholicism and Judaism. Religions evolve and people find new ways of expressing their beliefs. The core tenets usually remain the same. Hence the umbrella terms of "Christianity", "Paganism", Islam, etc.
