I am a Chemical Operator, which is basically a chemist who is a mechanic who runs machines, who basically doesn't try to blow crap up in order to make membranes for all sorts of filters (Oil, Gas, Fuel, Medical, Water, etc).

I love & hate my job! Love to figure things out that no one knows yet, but it is dang hard work on the mind! I am a graduate student trying to get a PhD in Genetics with a project focus on immunity to parasites. It's difficult for me being all trailer park redneck & chit too and starting college so late in life.

I will get there-someday!!! so need a break from data right now-->smokin

Do you work? if so, what do you do there?

if not, what do you do to pass the time, besides mingle?

do you love or hate what you do? is it a little of both?

I own an auto repair shop for the last 17-18 years and you name it, I do it.

To pass time? I don't make money unless I work, but by being the King of my Empire, I can do anything I want to!

I both love and hate what I do. I 'usually' love working on cars, but once in a while I wish I had a bazooka. The part I hate the most is writing out bills. Especially in this economy. Then sometimes just trying to collect! Then there's always the people who call every 15 minutes wondering if their car is done. It gets done and they fall off the Earth for weeks!

I have a graduate degree in "special" education - I work now in admissions at a technical college because I really beleive that technical training of the workforce is the only thing that can really save our economy (United States)

I have done everything from teaching reading to college students (believe it or not) - to loading/unloading, and inspecting mylar strips for Genral Motors

I was a consultant on reading assessments to a major university
I taught outdoor education to preschoolers- as I'm an avid and somewhat well trained naturalist

My first job other than teen babysitting was as a maid- got that job underage at 15 and have worked ever since

I like the job I have now best of any even tho I kinda had a bad day today:cry:

I do believe you teaching reading to college students! A friend of mine is a spec ed teacher at a nearby high school (that's in a VERY bad district) and some of the stories she tells me is CRAZY! It's almost like the system lets them through just to get them out of their hair!

Until Jan 18th I am a stay at home mom.

Then I go back to working as a Personal Support Worker in a nursing home. Caring for the elderly.

I enjoy my job, but I don't know if I will do it the rest of my life.

merci monsieur!

I was just also ponderng that not all of my employment has been for pay:

As a Vol., I helped restore prairie habitat with the Nature Conservancy and the Army Corps of Engineers where (at the COE) I won my 100 Hours Volunteer award

I was a volunteer guide for the Audubon Society

I was a Soccer & Volleyball Coach (many times over)
A Girl Scout Leader, and briefly a Cub Scout Aide

I taught Cathechism where parents of 8 & 9 year olds marveled that I could get 12-15 kids to do the Rosary every Monday night & love it- never a discipline problem

only thing I want for any of the above is a cozy corner in heaven when the time comes:angel: winking

I really think there's a sense of hopelessness among educators in many Urban public schools, and districts in poor communities. Quite honestly as an educator(my kids have attended both public & catholic)and a parent - I see parental responsibility being crucial to holding back the tide of hopelessness in public education- even as standards for teachers are raised. That may not be the most popular opinion but the research on student success supports it. If mom and/or dad are involved making POSITIVE contributions to their children's schools - the children of those parents usually get better grades. Teachers don't go to school for 5 yrs of college to be cops and babysitters. mos def a sense of hopelessness

You certainly do! But, it works both ways. I called up my water company the other day and dumba$$ me talked to a person instead of the automated crap. I'm usually pretty laid-back and patient, but in this case I wished I had that bazooka to shoot through the phone! I'm not sure why I have to tell my life story for 20 minutes to pay a bill that I have right in front of me. After 45 minutes to pay a $90 bill, I called her a moron twice, an idiot once, asked her how long she worked there twice and asked for a supervisor twice! Keep in mind, it's REALLY hard to get me mad, let alone saying anything like that. I never did get a supervisor and this time frame doesn't count the time being on hold!

Then there's my electric company. I've been trying to pay them for 2-3 months both over the phone and online! Then the other day they sent me a letter saying that they can't read my meter because of a dog. My dog died almost 20 years ago! When is it supposed to be HARD to pay somebody!

Then there's my natural gas company. Oh-my. Fought with them for three months. The first half of the summer I had almost a $1000 credit. Come July I OWED them $800! It was 80ish degrees out! Two weeks later I get another bill saying I owe $30. After countless hours on the phone and many supervisors, they say that they read my meter wrong. TWO OUT OF TWO TIMES and screwed it all up! How do you do that!!! Once. OK. We all mess up once in a while, but geesh! Where do these places find their employees? I'm still working on getting it all right! If I underestimate a bill with my business, I eat it. I charge what I quote. Why can't they? They mess up and then out of nowhere they expect you to pull out a crazy amount of unexpected $ from nowhere! I do have the money, but plenty of people don't! I'm sure I'm not the only one these utility companies do this to. Every day, I more and more doubt Darwinism!!!!!!
