Australia has admitted that securing oil is a key factor behind its continued troop deployment in Iraq.

It is the first time such an admission has been made.

Defence Minister Brendan Nelson said that maintaining "resource security" in the Middle East was a priority for the government in Canberra.

But he added that the main reason troops were still in the Gulf was to ensure that the humanitarian crisis there did not worsen.

Australia was involved in the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and has about 1,500 military personnel still deployed in the region. There are no immediate plans to bring them home.

Bah, It's all about Oil, KEEP the troops there! Now that this has been established it's clear that if forces are withdrawn the "enemy" would get the Oil.

Senseless killing is a help to an argument and would make a good enough argument is someone couldn't say that because it's about Oil, it's not senseless it has a goal. As for the Oil not being ours and being in another country, yes, absolutely it is Their oil, thus the invasion. If we claim the land the Oil is in, it's suddenly our oil.

Don't misunderstand, I AM NOT advocating this war. I wish and hope it to over as quickly as possible and with as little casualties on either side we can muster. I simply wanted to display a point that people can double-talk out of almost anything.

Without oil, the US would suffer massive famine and an economic disaster unseen since the Great Depression. We need oil to survive, so oil is a valid reason for war. But we haven't taken any of Iraq's oil. We aren't trying to take Iraq's oil. So it's very ignorant to claim that the war is all about oil. If it was about oil, we could have made a deal with Saddam for $10/ barrel oil in exchange for us lifting the sactions...like France, Germany, China and Russia.

It is NOT about oil!
