Share if you heard or practice any superstitious beliefs.
I am wondering if these applied to every part of the world. I grew up following some that we have here because of my grandma, and now it makes me laugh recalling those.

Like:

Don't eat the watermelon seeds or it will grow in your stomach.

If a stranger tap you, you should tap them back for they might be a witch and you will be under their spell.

If you are pregnant and you eat a twin banana, you will have a twins.

Don't take a shower at the afternoon or else you will have a leukemia.

So what is yours?

How about some oldies?

From Rome...

Spilling salt angers Bacchus. If you spill salt you must toss a pinch of it over your shoulder to avoid his wrath for wasting salt, Bacchus's gift to mankind.

An old European folk tale...

The only way to catch a bird is to put salt on its tail.

Not sure where I heard this one...

Never whistle in a grave yard to avoid provoking the dead. That is an old one too!

Are you thinking things like throwing salt over your shoulder or knocking on wood to counteract evil spirits? What about saying "bless you" when someone sneezes to prevent them from sneezing out their soul.

I heard one (speaking of animals) about putting butter on a cat's paws to keep it from running away after you move.

Actually "Bless You" after a sneeze was from the middle ages where a sneeze was the first sign of bubonic plague.

"The practice or tradition of blessing a sneeze dates back to 77AD. The custom originally began as an actual blessing by Pope Gregory in 590AD. An outbreak of the bubonic plague was closing in on Rome and sneezing was thought to be an early symptom. Saying "God Bless You" was thought to be a common halt to the disease."
