pretty much any Adam Sandler movie...the best for 80's tunes was the wedding singer, every song was great!

Okay....not all of these are from the 80s, but the artists are best known for their 80s success...with the exception of Bowie who was around for most of the 70s.

All of these are well known artists, but here are some without the same success:

I remember hearing certain 80's songs, when me and my mum lived in a homeless shelter. Mainly by Fleetwood Mac, or again Ace of Base. When i hear any of those songs now, it reminds me of living in the shelter, in the early 80's.

As much as I hated them back then, I actually like a bunch of Duran Duran now.

It is so easy to come up with well known names, but there were as many if not more flashes in the pan too.

Simply Red, Thompson Twins, Midnight Oil, The Hooters, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Los Lobos, and actors Rick Springfield, Jack Wagner, and Bruce Willis, all had brief stints in the spotlight. But going back to the early 80s, one-hit wonders were a dime a dozen.

All of us remember Rick James for Superfreak, but many more songs can you name by him? How about Adrian Belew? He was with a number of bands, including King Crimson. How about British sensation Billy Bragg? Terence Trent Darby? Thomas Dolby?

And then there are those who briefly spanned into the 80s from earlier, like Olivia Newton-John, The Pointer Sisters, Patti Labelle, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner.

Music was all over the place in the 80s. Almost any style or any sound could be found. So many bands held the spotlight, some with just a single song that stayed atop the charts for months, such as Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" which had a 7 week run. Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" debuted in 1981, but had the longest run of any No. 1 hit of the 80s....a 10 week run. By comparison, the longest stay at No. 1 ever was BoyzIIMen and Mariah Carey's "One Sweet Day" in 1995. According to Billboard magazine, it set the record with 16 weeks on top. Several more 90s hits also topped 10 weeks at the top spot. The shorter runs at No. 1 just made for more diversity on the airwaves as Alvin & The Chipmunks, "Weird" Al Yankovich, and Elmo & Patsy even made it onto the Top 40 charts during the 80s.

I'm sure a music historian could write pages about it...

I have lists of the Top 100 songs for each of the past 30 years.....The stuff is out there as long as you Google it.

Btw, A_Perfect_Circle: I like your pic. The eyes and smile remind me of Linda Carter's from when I watched "Wonder Woman" as kid. Talk about childhood crushes... ohwell

I AM OBSESSED. Everything. From the darker stuff like Tears For Fears and Siouxsie & The Banshees, to poppy bands like Wham! and Culture Club. Sonic Youth "Daydream Nation" is one of the best albums of the decade. Oh! and The Smiths - gotta love 'em!

I might have scandinavias biggest Boy George/ Culture Club collection so I am with u 100%

NICE
