This rumor got started off of the Mayan calendar ending at 2012, but it was just because they did not feel that they had to go any farther...they knew they would be looooong gone by then...lol. I guess they figured that if modern man could not figure out the calendar pattern to keep it going then a calendar would be the least of our problems...lol.

That analogy may not be so far off...

The K'iche' Maya believed that the gods created 3 failed worlds and that their's/our's was the fourth world. The world we are living in now. The previous world lasted 13 b'ak'tuns...roughly 5,125 years. It is estimated ending August 11, 3114 BC. The "zero" was used to count the end of the third world and the beginning of the fourth world. The end of the 13th b'ak'tun/Mayn date 13.0.0.0.0 will be December 21,2012.

There are many objections to an "Armgeddon". Many scholars believed that the Maya saw it as a cause for celebration to make it through to the end of a cycle and into the new one. A Mayan elder Apolinario Chile Pixton noted that "apocalypse" is a Western concept that has little or nothing to do with the Mayan beliefs. There has been no notations in ancient Mayan writings that has signified the ending of mankind.

As I recall, I was 25 years old, half-drunk in some sort of an apartment and sleeping next to a 25 year old girl (also half drunk) who knocked me several times in the head with her casting on her broken arm.

I'm investing in dried beans.

I'm sure there will be a gas shortage.

"No man knoweth the hour; not even our Lord Jesus Christ".

Anyone on here ever heard of the Bible? You'll find the answer in there. Or is this site for "Agnostics"?

Don't tease me...The world isn't ending in 2012. I learned my lesson after 2000, all hype, no show.

Really?

You know what? Lots of people have read the Bible.

The answer is not there.

It'll end when it ends. Don't think anyone really knows when. If it has to be in my time I want to be there sat in a dolce and gabbana dress smoking a menthol, sipping white wine with a chocolate drip in my arm. :D awesome. What a way to go.

In my estimation, and based on my personal beliefs, there is no way the world can end in 2012. What i am about to say, are not direct quotes from the Bible, it is simply my interpretation/understanding which may not be entirely correct.

First, the world will not end until the Bible is taught in every country. (derived from Matthew) I am not clear on how many countries that may leave.

Second, The great tribulation. (derived from revelations) tells us that in this period, which will last for seven years (the number 7 is relevant, as is multiples of 12) The first three and a half years, will be bountiful (this is in the reign of the third antichrist) The second half of the seven, will be wars, and bloodshed as never seen.

Third, all of the prophecies shall be fulfilled.

If you believe in the Bible, then there is no way this can happen in the time frame.

Nostradamus made over a thousand predictions in the quatrains. Over half of which have come to pass.
"Out of the country of Greater Arabia Shall be born a strong master of Mohammed,
He will enter Europe wearing a blue turban.
He will be the terror of mankind.
Never more horror."

Now, there are photos of Obama floating around the internet, wearing a blue turban. This photo may be photo shopped, i'm not sure.

Either way, i do not believe it is possible, within the time frame left, for those events to occur.

I've only scratched the surface here, but i did not set out to write a novel or derail the thread. This is just a snippet of years of research.

They didn't predict those, they studied them and used equations to know where the stars would align and the moons movements. They were extremely intelligent people, but they were not fortune tellers by any means.
