Thanks for the advice, still having reboot problems, but as I have no idea how to do the abovementioned (bit of a techie twit here, a dinosaur fossil from the Dark Ages of the Time Before Computers) I think I'll just buy a new pc at Wally and reinstall XP on that, (I have an XP/Office disc a friend gave me) or rather get my neighbor to do it for me. Do you think this would do the trick?

Also, if my pc has been hacked or compromised in some way, why wouldn't running Virus Scan and Spybot S&D fix the problem? Now it keeps trying to send e mail messages out that I have no idea where they came from. I use EZ Armor Firewall and Virus Scan so how could this have happened? Please let me know so I don't **** up my new pc in the future...

my computer...keeps dropping this page...ONLY. I am still logged into yahoo.com and everything else seems fine. It drops this page and goes to Dell Search page for some reason, I have to keep logging into this page...I have no idea why???

Well, I finally figured it out after reading around a bit online and using the good advice given here, apparently my computer reboot issue is linked to the EZ Trust Firewall True Vector monitor crashing whereupon I have to reboot the computer, this happens on a regular basis. Unfortunately, despite the frequency with which this problem was mentioned in a number of IT forums, there was no remedy suggested for this issue.

At this point I'm thinking of uninstalling the program and going with a different firewall. Is there any good free firewall software out there that you'd recommend? EZ Trust is free but IMHO it's not worth the constant reboot hassles.

or install a router and use the firewall with the router

Thanks for the info., will see what I can find. I used to use McAfee, but it took forever to load and cost too much for what it was, so I got rid of it about 6 months ago and started using the EZ Firewall/Virus Scan as it came free with Road Runner. The Virus Scan is good and the firewall worked fine til about 2 months ago when I installed Yahoo IM, ever since then I've had the reboot problem. I wonder if that has something do with it? I don't want to get rid of Yahoo IM though, so I guess I'll have to look around for another free firewall.

Reboot may be a function of heat.
It also may be a defective power supply.

But in your case, you have traced it to corrupted software.
Sometimes other newly-installed programs can interact with the settings of older programs.

SO:

Uninstall the firewall software, if you can.
Re-install it.

If you are lucky, it will re-establish itself.
It is possible that the IM and firewall can not co-exist,
but that is probably not the case.
