I try to not look a gift horse in the mouth

(so to speak)

if someone chooses to share some words and time with me, it is an honor

just receiving such an honor helps

but that's just me

I usually don't need a pep talk so much as a good nap, but I definitely agree with this statement.

I think whether a pep talk is good or bad is probably situational. For example:

If you're in the gym lifting weights and you have a buddy saying something like "Come on, you can get one more!!" Then that's a good pep talk, gives you something to shoot for and encouragement to reach a goal.

Now if the same buddy is saying something like "You can do it, strangle that kitten!!" Well, I think we can all agree that's a bad pep talk. surprised

IF YOU`VE EVER BEEN TO WALMART EARLY IN THE A.M. WHEN THE DAY SHIFT STARTS, YOU`VE MAYBE SEEN THE EMPLOYEES GETTING A PEP TALK TO START THE DAY. I ALWAYS FEEL BAD FOR THEM HAVING TO CHEER OR WHATEVERohwell

That isn't a pep talk. That is a peppy business meeting, one that I attend 3 days a week.

By the way, part of the "cheer" goes like this:

"Who's number one?"

"Customers always!"

Pep talks are only good if the person it is giving to even takes in consideration to what is being said. Regardless if they follow through with what is being told to them or not. One should at least listen to what they have to say. In the long run it could actually be something that could be helpfully.

JMO Pep Talks are giving to others cause the one giving it cares.whoa

Yeah but after awhile it gets old. Its not like I haven't heard it dozens of times.

But then Pep Talks are one thing talking down to another is something else.

To me a Pep Talk is telling another the things you could do that will help you out. The things they see that one could improve on...They leave you with a positive feeling...

Where talking down to you would leave you feeling inadequate where they are only pointing out the bad things you do and not telling you all the good points you have....whoa

No, I have never felt anyone was talking down to me; they were trying to cheer me up when I was down; however it usually makes me feel worse. Most times you just want to vent; not someone to reassure you that things are alright or will get better. That sounds more patronizing than anything else. I swear the next person that says "you will find someone" is going to get his or her *** kicked.

Navygirl, of course you will find someone. Target practice is more fun when you have a moving target.

Wait. That's what we did on Melmac. Hunting for a lover here on Earth doesn't usually involve the use of firearms.

I guess it helps that I am a good shot then. laugh
