I have a PS3 that I haven't used a lot. I just got an LCD TV recently and this morning I went to watch a Bluray and the damn thing wont work. It turns on and goes to that tan start up screen with the bubbles or water or whatever it is right after it says PS3 during loading, when that PS3 wringing goes off it goes to that screen. The screen I am talking about is also the screen yhats in the background for the menu's.

It just hangs at that start up point where the menu's are supposed to pop up and the menu's never show up! Help! I don't know much about the PS3 and I wanna watch movies!

I even tried to put a movie and a game in and nothing. You also can't power it down either that way, unless it's through the back.

It seemed to be trying to connect to our internet based on the lights at the bottom.

Any help or iteas or insight would really help. My aging parents have a few movies they would like to watch in Bluray.

Is the PS3 new? As in is it the slim version or is it one of the older fat versions? It could have something to do with it needs an update, which in that case you're screwed cause PSN is down and who knows if it'll ever come back online. If it's trying to connect online, the only way it can do that is if you have created a PSN account yourself for that specific PS3. And again, you're screwed on that cause you can't get online right now, just disable anything that has to do with connecting to online.

Another thing you can try is (if you don't have game data or anything this will really be easy for you) reformat the drive in the system.

And Just curious, it isn't giving any orange or yellow lights where it shows it's turned on is it?? If it is and it's still under warranty, send it in my friend...it's dead.

And yes, I'm a PS3 owner, have been for 6 years so I know all kinds of **** about them.

If you have any questions on how to do anything of sort, feel free to post here or just shoot me an email on here, might be quicker.

Don't have any experience with the ps3, but if it were me, I would try turning it on without a disc. I would try letting it stay at the "hang" point for 5-10 minutes, if it is trying to connect to the internet, it may "time out" and go to the next screen. Maybe you need to have the controller or remote turned on first? Try pressing buttons. Try unpluging it for 5-10 minutes or longer that helps sometimes. Make sure everything is hooked up right. Try LIGHTLY whacking it or shaking it, honestly!! Ummmmmmmm that's all I can think of right now

power on the ps3 by holding down the power button until it beeps a few times (this is the same as forcing it to power down when it hangs)

this method should reset the video settings to the factory defaults

Sounds like a Hard drive problem to me, I had the same problem, i bought a new Hard drive for about £40, Put it in the PS3 after fiddling about with software on a memory stick and then it worked perfectly! :D
