Thats sad. I love bookstores. I admit, however, that I prefer the little antiquey style bookstores with some actual person that owns it. I like being around old books. Hard to find em nowadays. You can get old books on the internet.............. I really dislike buying books online. One of my favorite things to do is browse through a used bookstore. So yes, it's definitely sad when book stores close. Then again, I also refuse to get an ebook reader, because I prefer real books. half priced books, do they have them up there where you live? the name of the store is called "Half-priced books" I have never heard of them, but I'll look and see if there are any nearby! Thanks. Edited to add: There are none in Maryland at all, or any nearby states! maybe they are just a texas store... i have seen them in dallas and houston... but whatever the orginal cost of the book was, they charge at the most half of that price, most of the time cheaper... and you can sell your books there too, that how they get stock... The Dollar Stores sell books too........... |

Everything is really cheap and the same lady has owned it for a long time. I love it there. |

Actually, in all honesty I don't even look at Playboy or any of those I was just playing around. The only magazie I read, buy or look at is WWE Magazine and the yearly WWE Magazine\Book they release and the occasional one they release when one of them dies, like Macho Man. Other then that the only other thing I really read and followed was the Harry Potter books, which I still have all 7 in both paperback and hardcover. I never could get into anything else. Besides when I sit and read I get really bad headaches. |

Also one of the businesses that supports the Haunted Houses I work for every year is a used book store. We must have close to 10 of them in my area. |

yes, this is sad and scary heading down a road of being slaves to technology,, IM not real excited about it personally It however is not the 16th century. This is the natural progression, I applaud the beginning of the end of overpriced information. Ummmmm, the do sell more then books. They sell music, mp3 players, dvd's, software etc. Not to mention these new Electronic Books(like Kindle, which are a waste of money) are all technology. Major brick and mortar stores are failing becuase people find shopping online easier. I personally do not own a kindle, or any e-reader, not becuase I do not love reading, not becuase I do not want my books cheaper, but becuase I am too busy spending money on ammunition training for USPSA. In a few more months or if they drop the price again I will pick one up, they are awesome. Lighter, no more cramps in my hands from reading all night, they are faster, no more running around town wasting gas looking for a title, they are smarter, they can help me find books I may like based on what I have already downloaded. Sorry, the arguments for big book stores are thin. Lets donate to our local libraries instead. That is what I am doing. I donated a few hundred fiction novels, and gave a few dozen to a friends kid. I spent thousands of dollars on all those books, I did a little looking and NOT a single one could not be had on amazon for the kindle at a fraction of the cost. At least my money will help someone else who cant afford a kindle, or those books when they go to the library and check out a book I paid for. And we still Half Price Bookstore - but it's just not the same. The Library is not the same either - they need a cafe' and an outdoor deck for nice weather and place for browers to sit comfy cozy furniture. It was more than a book store, it was a place where people had words in common and through those words they met face-to-face and formed friendships and shared thier reading adventures. When the economy gets better, we really need to rethink the whole library idea - broaden its scope and make it a more attractive meeting and reading place. |

A group of Borders creditors rejected the Direct Brands takeover bid in July 2011. Borders filed for an auction and the motion was approved by a judge; however, the bid deadline expired on July 17 without a bidder. Borders is seeking approval to liquidate, and it could start closing its remaining 399 stores by, July 22, 2011 with a phased roll-out. Business operations are expected to cease by September 2011.

The Borders closest to me closed last year, and had a 75% off sale. So I 50 volumes of a comic called One Piece (japanese) for only $100. It was great to add to my collection.
I do hate to see book stores dieing out because I like to hang out in them, just to be surrounded by so many stories, lives, pages, and information. Yes I'm weird. |

Hell, I don't even buy the previously played video games or movies. I'm all about finding books I want that are very cheap :). I'm more likely to check out a new author if I go with used books as well. Honestly I do not think any objective reasons can be stated against e-readers. Nostalgia at best, stubbornness at worst. I like books stores don't get me wrong, but I see a book I want to read, new author, it is hard back only and 20-40 dollars . . . no thanks. 1-3 dollars, yup price is right! Ultimately reading is about the adventure inside the pages, not the smell of old books. |

Ebooks are great. Just think of all the trees that will be saved. |

I just can't get into the idea of not having real books to read. It has nothing to do with left/right leaning. It has to do with preference. Not everything is political. |

However, Books-A-Million is seeking to rescue 35 stores from liquidation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borders_Books#2011_bankruptcy_and_liquidation I have never heard of this Books-A-Million, has anyone else? That is good news, at least it will save 35 stores and people jobs! I don't know to what extent they will rescue them though........... |
