I hope yellowstone's super volcano isn't ready to blow. I'm in Colorado and we had several earthquakes here. Trinidad. I didn't feel anything though that I remember. We get thunder and other things so I may not have noticed the rumble.

We've only had maybe 3 earthquakes that we could actually feel here in the past 40 years. Never had one more than 3.2 as far as I can remember. Moodus, CT is known for strange noises which are believed to be from low-level seismic activity. Most quakes here are 1.5 or less.

I was born and lived in DC till I was 13, still have a few friends in MD where I lived for years, a few in VA too. Happy to report they are all fine.

Crazy that there was a quake in DC though I am not as freaked as others. I mean I was in Japan for one of the most powerful quakes ever.

I just heard from a friend that the Washington monument is now tilting a bit (somewhat like the tower of Pisa). Hopefully, it falls.

Looks like it was fox that said it might be tilting. Park service says it's not.

Geologically, the East Coast is locked too tight to have a major earthquake, unlike the West Coast which is part of the most active seismic region in the world, aka the Pacific Rim.

Make no doubt. Seismically speaking, the East Coast and the West Coast put pressure on each other. Once every 300 years or so, this pressure causes a massive quake in the Mississippi Valley where Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Arkansas all meet. The last one is believed to be the strongest ever felt in North America. Geological studies show that the area is prone to massive quakes on a predictable basis. The next one is due within the next 100 years (toward the latter end given current data).
