Good News for us Metallica fans, remember Rick was the producer who produced the old Metallica, before Bob CO...errr I mean Rock, maybe Metallica will go back to thier JAMMING roots.

Metallica has drafted Rick Rubin to produce its next studio album, work on which is underway at the band's California headquarters. In a post on its official Web site, the band confirms Rubin "has been coming by the studio every now and again to listen to some of our new stuff and throw his two/three cents in."

"We have been jamming, writing, just plain messing around and having fun in the studio for the last few weeks," the post continues. Photos show band members with instruments in hand, as well as drummer Lars Ulrich with a lyric sheet held just far enough back from the camera so as to not reveal key details.

There's no timetable yet for the release of the as-yet-untitled album, which will be the follow-up to 2003's "St. Anger." As previously reported, Metallica has also committed to a run of shows in South Africa next month as well as a handful of summer festival appearances in Europe.

As for Rubin, the news comes on the heels of confirmation that he will produce the next Warner Bros. album from multi-platinum rock act Linkin Park, which is expected before the end of the year.

Did anyone know that Rick Rubin was the original "money man" for the now-defunct Smoky Mountain Wrestling promotion here in Knoxville in the early 90's? Either he was friends with manager/promoter Jim Cornette, or a third party got them together. He was the backer for about three years, only pulling out when it was obvious the promotion was going downhill, and nothing was going to save it.

Screw Metallica. They abandoned their fans and turned themselves into a joke.

i don't know but the stuff they did after they suppossedly sold out doesn't sound that much different to me than the original stuff. the guitars ain't as heavy and they seem more melodic than getting to the chorus and just playing the same chord really hard and really fast lol. i like it all. i admit i haven't heard ST.ANGER yet though.

kingbreeze,

Their new music sounds like a toilet flushing when compared to "Master of Puppets". Metallica died with Cliff Burton.

i've only heard one song from ST.ANGER and i didn't like it. they said that they were going for a raw sound when it was being released but it just sounded bad to me.

I hated St. Anger, I've heard trash compactors sound better. Tho the Loaded, and ReLoaded CDs were prolly the best they've done "recently".

i don't think the sales of ST.ANGER could even come close to their previously lowest selling album.
