Distance seems to be a major issue for many here.

Or is it the folks here are more interested in flirting
Online other than to actually meet up ?

The serious ones are so far away and the men closer home are just looking for flings.I'm talking from what I've experienced here. Also,it's not like relocating is a difficult choice,it's the resources that is just not there

Good question drinker. I never mention that i'm open to looking for love. It's not like i haven't talked to men who didn't want to date me, they just lived too far away is all. I have had a few men in my early twenties. So i don't feel like i missed out on anything. One i dated, had to move to a new country for their career. I knew he wasn't lying, cos i worked for the same company he worked for. The company asked me if i, too, wanted to move, i told them it just wasn't possible. I'd known him for about five year back then. I have to make sure i can relate to my lover, and have good conversation flow, before meeting up irl.

Seems to be a fair amount of truth in this ....

When I first started using dating sites, I had this idea that "Wow, I'll have access to millions of people I never could have met otherwise."

And that's true; but the downside is, the vast majority of those people are so far away that it's unrealistic to try to do anything about them.

Distance is an issue.

That, and the fact that, for whatever reason, people on most of the dating sites I've tried are really pretty mainstream. They want the whole marriage/kids thing, and I don't.

definitely not

just nothing has clicked yet

and my last relationship has me VERY cautious (last two or 3 actually)

I am not seriously interested in an LDR

I think there are some of us on here who just chat in the forums as a social networking site without set expectations

that would be me

Legal disclaimer first. I don't want to step on any toes or offend anyone. These observations are all mine.

I just left a site I was on for almost 4 years. Lucky for me, I did meet someone and am here for the making of new friends, good conversation and humor. And this site is so much better than the last one. People here are kind and I have seen no bickering. I really like that.

The other site has tons of people who have been there a VERY long time, most are not dating or meeting anyone. Many of them are alcoholics with no life outside the site. Many have been there so long that they have become like a really bad movie about dysfunctional families. They know too much about each other, they bicker nonstop and generally act like idiots. Lots of textbook depression over there.

Some have traveled long distances to meet only to get seriously and expensively scammed. Some were so drunk on the first dates that they blew it immediately. The guy I'm seeing said he would never even talk on the phone with the venom spewing snakes on there.

Maybe it's fear? I dunno. I was interested in the guy I'm seeing for nearly a year, but thought I wouldn't have a chance. Happily, I was wrong. He was watching my behavior and decided I was the one to date. I drove 750 miles to meet him and am on my 4th trip here. He also came to see me. It is easier for me to do the traveling. Most people would not go to that extreme, but my gut told me I had to do it. In this economy, many people just can't do the distance thing.

On this site, though, I'm not sure yet what the deal is. I see people actually meeting and falling in love already. At least the folks here are kind to each other, and that will def get a person dates faster that spitting at each other all the time.

Sorry for writing a book here.

I'm with Solitaire on this one.

The serious ones are way too far away. The only local ones are either not my type, married/cohabiting or way too familiar with their webcam.

Relocation isn’t always possible when you have kids...

The ones I've been interested in are half the country away. And I can't offer more than friends for the next 10 years so I am in a directionally challenged phase.

LOL...A 2 hour drive for a date does not even sound that bad to me, but it seems that the only girls I meet online that we hit it off are over a 1000 miles away...lol. I have grown out of the bar scene I guess so that limits the local places to look for anyone who is also looking. It also seems like so many people are already in a relationship, even if they are not in a good one, they stay in it longer because it is so hard to find someone. I would rather be alone than in a bad relationship...
