i didnt vote for them. i dont even vote that often only when i need to.. my dad voted for him and i thought my dad was insane...george caused nothing but more problems, and i guess he doesnt see that.

oh yes.i voted in the last election and it was not for Bush.I think with the internet and such no one can say they cannot get informed about a canidates platform.

This is just a thought, but instead of sittng hear beating on eachother with little hope of changing anyones views if you really want to effect social change here are a few tips.

1. Immediately take out your check book and make the largest contribution you can affort to the political party of your choice.

2. Call the local office of that political party and ask them what you can do to aid their and your cause.

3. Assist in voter registration. Get as many people registered to vote as possible

4. Hold and participate in political rallies and fund raisers for the candidate of your choice.

5. Go door to door promoting the candidates of our choice.

6. Call people and ask them if you can put a campaign sign for your candidates in their yards.

7. Come election first vote yourself, then assist in the get out the vote program. Provide people who need it with a ride to the poles.

You can effect political change, but it takes more effort on your part than sitting on your bulbous backside and whinning about the status quo on the internet.

The above is a tall set of marcing orders only a very few will even attempt a couple of them. Most will attempt none of the above because they expect everybody else to do it for them. It is easier to sit there at your computer and post cut and paste messages on a forum while deluding yourself that you are actually bringing about change. Then when things don't turn out in their favor they want to cry whine moan and complain.

There will probably be a bunch of people who will want to post excuses why they can't do any of the above ie. Two jobs, kids, not time, single parent etc. My answer is, if you have time to post her you have time to do something! The reason you don't take action is because the political process is not inportant enough to you to take presidence over your liesure activities.

If you want change G.O.Y.A. (for the acronymic impared, that is short for Get Off Your A$$) and make it happen don't expect to sit on the sidelines and take credit for the results if you are not involved in the process.

That's my rant for the day, I am off to write a check to the RNC and prepare for a block party I am having tonight to address problems within our Home Owners Association and Water Association. Not exactly earth shaking, but I do get involved which is more than I can say for most people.

You're absolutely right Garden, it is a tall order to do all of those things for most people; if most people would do even a couple of those things we would all see a big change. Even if you only vote it's a start.

garden, been there tried that, got nowhere as there is no one worth voting for in any party at the national level. i will agree that one can make a difference at the local level, but i believe that i also make a statement by not voting at the national level.

Unfortunately some people will only back a candidate that supports ALL their ideals and principles to a T. That candidate does not exist and never will therefore I guess it is acceptable to throw in the towel and not vote. If more people felt that way, we would soon have leaders that were elected by a very small portion of the population and who owed allegience to only that small portion.

It is easy to stand on the high moral ground and say that you don't vote because there is no one worth voting for, but it's a hollow argument without substance. All of these candidates have to pass through many primaries to become the party's choice. By getting involved in the process you have a chance to make a difference, if you sit on the sidelines and do nothing then be willing to accept what you get gracefully and in silence because you have given up your right to protest by not voting.

Good posts, all, but let's get back to the original topic here. Bush's plan is to keep everything in Iraq "status quo" until he's out of office. Then everything can be blamed on the next administration. If it's a Democratic one, he can blame the Dems for the problems there. If it's a Republican one, well, despite what you true 'pubs think, Bush doesn't give a damn about you, either.

Knox you got the blame game right. Have you ever in your life seen anyone from either side of the aisle step up and take responsibility for something unpopular. If the Dem's get elected, I think they will waste no time and have no problem laying the blame on the Bush Administration. If the Reps get elected they will have to play dodge the bullet or wear teflon suits. If the war were more popular you can bet both sides would be one uping the other to claim credit for initiating it. As for Bush or anyone else keeping it going till after the election just to play the blame game I don't think that is a viable theory. We are there we have created a power void and if we leave before filling that void with something good, something worse than Saddam will fill that void. However, until the Iraqi people step up and decide that they want an end to the violence, I do not believe there will be significant progress made. I heard on the news that the Iraqi Parlament has decided to take the month of August off. It is time to quit beating around the bush (no pun intended) with those clowns and tell them that if they don't get their poop in a group NOW we are going to give them a short plane ride and a parachute drop into their advasaries territory.
