I was going to go with video games or condoms or even underwear/clothing because they prevent my balls from turning blue during winter...

...but I have to go with language.

Without it, we never would have been able to evolve or accomplish as much as we have.

When he born, society still thought of electricity as a novelty, a fad. By the time he died, entire cities were lit by electricity.

In my opinion an Electric bulb was greatest invention & thomas alva edison is my favorite inventor.

What separates an invention from a discovery?

You know what... I think that is a double edge sword.
As "we" create, "we" destroy.
I'd like to see somethings that actually help the planet and give back rather than take... Moving on to a more "normal societal view point".

I'd say higher level math.

If that doesn't count I'd say Metallurgy (Tool/Die) & Chemistry as was mentioned before.
Without it you'd have nothing that you see today.

Also, electricity has been around forever... or at least as long as there has been an imbalance (lightning provides balance) after the creation of the firmament. What did the "Arc"(Ark)of the covenant do? Baghdad battery and the Egyptian light bulb pre-date Edison. China also predates Gutenberg for the "printing press".

I wonder what was lost in the library of Alexandria and what further was lost in the fire recently in Egypt...

harnessing electricity changed everything forever.
without it many of the things listed here either would not have come to fruition or would otherwise be useless.
