Topic: Let's talk about judgment...

Judgment is something that we all do and we do it all the time. For instance, when we look out we conclude that we are seeing something. It does not matter if we believe that that is a figment of our imagination or if we believe that something is really there, we are rendering judgment in both cases. There are also different kinds of judgment, and that is what I'd like to see developed here. Some different kinds, off the top of my head would include moral judgment(meaning what is to be considered acceptable/unacceptable behavior), aesthetic judgment(meaning personal preferences/tastes), and epistemic judgment(meaning that which one thinks/believes to be true).

I suppose what I'm wondering is if all judgment is somehow the same in some way.

Clearly there are different types of judgment, as you have named a few. What is the issue that makes this important to you? Because to me it seems like nothing but playing with words.

Temporal spacial judgement. Do I have time to cross three lanes before that vehicle is going to cross my path.

Need there be an issue to see the pivotal role that judgment plays? Our words aim to set it out.

Can we explain how it works bushido?

Can we explain how it works bushido?
We as in the Scientific community? Kinda.

I was going to vomit out an answer, but looking back over it, I found it not well formed. Give me a chance to look back over the research, it has been a while and I think my vague memories are the problem.

Well to respond to Bravalady.

Judging the distance of a car and its relative speeds when getting out in traffic is VERY different than judging if your friend is lying to you.

What do these things have in common, what is different? Often from a philosophical view point we can discover different ways we engage with these various judgements and better help our understanding of the science involved with cognition.

Just my .02, but then again I kinda geek out to this stuff.

Am I correct to judge that this is yet another Peter_Pan inspired thread?

IMO judgement became an evolutionary trait that endured because when a snake or big cat can be determined as dangerous without having to be eaten by it we survive.

But in our world, judgement in some cases can be a deterrent to the growth of one mentally and spiritually. Simple minds make a snap judgement of others by "look" mostly and they never give themselves a chance to find it wasn't a correct judgement.

Just because I don't post in every thread I inspire does not mean that I do not know that I'm the inspiration. I presume nothing...

You do realize that I openly discuss and often argue the topic of truth(which entails judgment, honesty, and lies) nearly everyday of my life and have done so for the better part of the last six or seven years?

You've presumed much. The fallacy is called post hoc ergo prompter hoc. In plain terms, just because I create a topic which is, in some way, similar to a conversation that you and I have had does not mean that it was caused by that conversation.

What was the question again?

Not really any question in particular, just an attempt to discuss the ins and outs of judgment. Perhaps wondering if they all have something in common.
