Topic: What would you do for immortality?

What I am talking about is physical death.

If you knew a way to live for say 500 - 1000 years and be healthy by doing certain things that might take some mental and spiritual or physical discipline, would you want to know how and would you be able to commit to doing it?

I would have to have "good reason" to

You would have to have a good reason to live longer?

By longer i assume you're meaning immortality, and yes i would need good reason to be immortal other than a selfish desire to do so, or just because i can. If immortality is offered to you just for the sake of having it...would you?

I don't expect it would be offered to me "just for the sake of it."
But I do wonder why you would think that wanting immortality or wanting to live longer, (like 500 - 1000 years) is a "selfish desire."

And if it is a selfish desire, what is wrong with being selfish enough to want to live as healthy and as long as possible?

Yes I would take it. If there was a certain food or water or exercise I could do in order not to grow old and die I would certainly take it.

Are people programmed to think that it is their duty to die? Do we not deserve to live as long a life as possible?

I think we do.

"deserve" ? I'm not too sure we deserve much of anything. Do we?
Were we born deserving? WOW! That is a question for one to ponder.

I believe our bodies are meant to last a short time, but I believe WE live for ever. So, I guess I believe I am already immortal. Because I am not my body.

Yes we are immortal. I believe that too.

And I think if we decide, we can live as long in the physical body as we choose.

...then no one must want to live past 115-116 (or whatever the oldest age is)

But why? If for no other reason than to say that you can? Why should we be immortal when every other living thing else around us has served its purpose and expires?

Someone has to start living. If you love life, and you can live as long as you want, why would you choose death?

The body wears out; therefore, we do not choose death, it simply happens and our spirit transcends to another life, that's what I think.

I'm already looking forward to my next life.
No that I do not enjoy this one.
But, that I feel our lives are like grades in school.
We just keep graduating to a higher level.
I am already a banana
Next life, who knows...maybe a pineapple! bigsmile

Can you guarantee that you will continue to love the gift of life you have been given forever?

Pretty much depends on if you wake up in the morning on your 115th birthday and find something to live for. Death is not the end, death is the beginning of your next great adventure, it is not something to fear neither is it bad. What we have now is by no means everything. This is not all there is

Speaking of death, this may sound crazy to many people, but I once wanted to be cryogenically frozen when I was dead. I'm the type that likes to save as much of myself as humanly possible. Maybe that just takes the biscuit, but it was my crazy idea. lol :)

Depends whether I could keep the people I loved living as well. Otherwise it would be a very long and lonely life.
If I could , almost anything.

You can meet new friends.

 I love easily, but find it very difficult to let go. I don;t know if I would want to watch everyone i loved die and keep starting again.

If you could live and stay young by doing certain things, (not drinking the blood of innocents or selling your soul) what would you be willing to do?

Give up all your bad habits?
Eat organic food and distilled water?
Do yoga?
meditate every day?

Think pure thoughts? ( ) <---- inside joke

immortal would not be very fulfilling, in my opinion

an eternity is longer than we can imagine

Then I guess God is not very fulfilled or maybe God is extremely bored. That is why he invented death. laugh

I dont know if God is fulfilled, but I know I would not be if I was an immortal HUMAN (still flawed, still capable of emotional and physical pain, still loving family that was NOT immortal, but never able to die)

this is a different question than the thread title

being immortal is a bit different than living a long time but not an infinite time

I Still wouldnt want to do it though, as a human, I do feel boredom and pain and I wouldnt want to recycle those things in different ways (As life does) for five to ten centuries...
