This should be down in the religion forum but anyways ... happy

If you choose to talk to someone who is a non-believer about god dont try to push it down there throats . Ive distanced myself from friends because they do this to me everytime we get together . Its okay to talk about it but dont try to convert someone just because they dont believe the same things you do . Im sure you wouldnt want them to try to convert you to aethism .

I usually just talk about God around them so they can hear. It usually gets a reaction.

This has to do with relationship. Don't see why ppl votin to delete it.

I found that for myself, I am not religious. I dated a strict catholic and a jewish girl(all are strict it seems) It's all on the compatability and if you cannot adapt then don't bother. This might be bad advice but its advice...

Best way to talk is with no judgemental words & respect for the others opinion.

I agree with Sage, when it comes to religion, the best policy is live and let live.

The alternative is to join my church. Kool Aid anyone??? bigsmile

suggest that people can have a God of their own understanding, a power "greater then themselves" Having spirituality in one's life can be very helpful and comforting.

Well what might be the best approach is to respect each others beliefs and keep them out of the conversation. For one that is athiest hummm they have no desire to talk about God they don't believe in him and what a lot take as his word. To me your just barking up the wrong tree asking for an argument. It is all a respect thing and if the two can not respect the others beliefs then they should move one. I believe in God but I don't go to church on Sun,wed and thrus I believe I can pray and believe without having to go to the church and nope dont go easter sunday and x-mas either to me just to go those two days is kind of a hyprocrite but now that is only my opinion only. My daughter goes to church my kids were giving the options to believe how they wanted to. But both do believe. But now if I was with someone that went to church every week who knows I might go not because I felt the need to but to show my partner I have respect for them and can honor there wishes flowerforyou

As an atheist, I would respect your opinion and would expect you to reciprocate. Preaching at me will not help; I've read the bible cover to cover seven times, and I know the material better than any of my Christian friends.

I think we need to get past this idea that religious disagreements are somehow insurmountable. People can get along with each other, if they simply choose to do so. It's all about mutual respect.

In the end, I don't actually KNOW if God exists and neither do you -- neither does anyone else. I will be the first to admit that my beliefs (or lack thereof) may be entirely wrong; and if I ever see any evidence to indicate that this is the case, I will be honest enough with myself to accept my error and correct it accordingly.

But if you;re serious about wanting to talk to an atheist about god, my first suggestion would be to avoid being preachy or hitting them with "Well, you know you're going to hell." That stuff carries no weight with atheists! Next thing, you might want to ask them WHY they don't believe in god, try to come to some sort of understanding of what led them to believe (or not) as they do (or don't).

A lot of atheists really don't seem like such heathen pagan monsters once you get to know them as people....

The same way you would talk to a friend about your hobbies.

Explain what you think, and wait for a response.

Dont be judgmental on the response. After all, you like the person for who they are, not who you are.

To want to be with someone doesnt mean that you have to agree with everything they say.

In fact its good if you dont agree on everything, or both of you could be wrong at the same important moment!

i find it is alot easier for me to accept that they believe in a god than it is for them to accept that i don't.

for the atheist,
eventually it will blow up in your face....especially if they have a religion attached to their faith....

if, on the other hand , you are in a relationship with an atheist, and you feel you love them ( the operative word being FEEL )

then i would like to imagine that you would respect that they are as content with their 'lack of belief' as they are with your 'belief'.

if you need to talk about god with them , then that says to me you are not secure in your own relationship with god. or else why would you NEED to DO ANYTHING with it? why would you need to convince anyone of something you are so certain of?

to be able to share your feelings? is that a bit selfish??? if you willingly walked into the situation knowing how they felt?

share those feelings and beliefs with those that can receive you...respect the VERY PERSONAL relationship each person has with life, and give it the environment it needs to flourish in.

if you want the relationship to have a chance....

allow....do not try to convert and do not view us with condescension or with some kind of disdain.....or poor thing she is so misguided...

what i find is that believers are often locked within the boundaries of their belief systems and that is just WAY TOO CRAMPED for me.

i have had wonderful affaires with people who believe in god... it was never an issue....... and just like sexual preference....it's no one's business but your own.

religion is the issue.
