So did Operation Mockingbird exist and if so what was its purpose?

Again one does not need to have every journalist on the payroll one only needs to control the choke points of information.

We have the illusion of a free and independent media for sure.

Censorship by omission is still censorship.

Do you suppose if a group of star athletes gathered and had secret discussions it would make the news? Why the near media silence when the movers and shakers of the world gather be it at bohemian grove or bilderberg?

Your kidding yourself if you think we have an independent media.

And you're unable to prove otherwise with any credibility, therefore, your argument is worthless. Moreover, you confuse censorship with media control. They are not the same.
Whatever dude I'll post it again since you missed it.

There are many examples of media censorship, yet few so clear and blatant as the Fox News censorship of investigative journalists Jane Akre and Steve Wilson in their series on the dangers of artificial hormones in our milk. In the below 10-minute video clip, Jane and Steve explain how their work was at first championed by their local Fox news station, only to then be attacked.

These two investigative reporters were eventually offered a significant bribe by their station managers to cancel their highly revealing series and promise never to speak of what happened. After refusing they were fired.

One of the key quotes during this astounding example of media censorship came from the Fox station manager, who said "We paid $3 billion dollars for these television stations. We’ll tell you what the news is. The news is what we say it is!" If you care about your personal health and the health of our media, watch this fascinating clip and learn more at the links below.

You have, yet again, misunderstood the point. Please discern between editorial influence, censorship and government control of the media. Get these concepts straight in your head and get back to me.

Being that your from Australia I am sure you do not understand how government works here in Uber Amerika.

Government and business are so intertwined we do not need to have an official government censor of the news business does it for them.

The example above proves nicely that the toxins in milk was being exposed to be harmful were was the government on this? The FDA called in? hardly.

The media in the US is a joke its like the old soviet Pravda only instead of the communists we have the capitalist party doing what comes naturally to them protect the interests of the vested interest.

I understand it very well, as I have done subjects in media and politics at university. The same relationships you outline above exist in my country. Don't think your country is exemplary, because it isn't. Moreover, other democracies are subject to the same influences. To compare your media to that of the Soviets is erroneous, for they are nothing alike, believe me, I have actually read this material, and as a result, I'm not falling for the hyperbole. Please discern between editorial influence, censorship and government restrictions upon media content and get back to me.

971: The New York Times Takes on the Pentagon--and Wins
"Vietnam Protest"Public domain. Photo: U.S. Department of Defense.
The massive military study titled United States-Vietnam Relations, 1945-1967: A Study Prepared by the Department of Defense, later known as the Pentagon Papers, was supposed to be classified. But when excerpts of the document were leaked to the New York Times in 1971, which published them, all hell broke loose--with President Richard Nixon threatening to have journalists indicted for treason, and federal prosecutors attempting to block further publication. (They had reason to do so; the documents revealed that U.S. leaders had--among other things--specifically taken measures to prolong and escalate the unpopular war.)

In June 1971, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the Times could legally publish the Papers.

Why should the government censor the media when it does such a good job all by itself.

Take the Iraq war as an example our media "watchdogs" did more to sell the war than the government. Why would the censor a media that is so complaint and subservient?

When any whistle blowers crop up the justice is swift and harsh.
Bradley Manning is a good example as would be WikiLeaks.

The only thing that I find offensive is the use of the term Bohemian.

If they were to rename their little groupie love gatherings to "Haut Boheme"....I would be able to sleep alot better.

Really....I am quite snobbish about that *pout*

I find it rather amusing that the Fox Corporation and their ilk have provided us little people the means in which to voice our disapproval of their "antics"

Ironic is it not?

seems you don't have much of an idea what Censorship is!
Might ask some former Soviet-Russian!
He might teach you a few things you have never heard about!
Then look up the definition of Censorship!
An Action actually only possible to do by a Government, not by a News Corporation!Only a Government has the means to enforce a Censorship!Only a Government can apply that kind of brute Force it might necessitate!
Please go and look it up!laugh
