Don't join if you have second thoughts or are doing it for others, do it for you, as a palientologist would do cause he loves dinosaurs.

was in the army for 4 yrs active..now reserves..def the best and worst times of my life...its a great oppurtunity and i wouldnt changed a thing...ladies who are thinking about joining one word of advice...in the military there are no women , or ladies..you are a soldier..and what the men can do, you are expected to do as well...they dont deal with whining or the " but i'm a girl" theory...to all that have served and are serving, and will be serving...thank you.. Throughout all these posts my questions have still not been answered but a few times. Why did you all join or think about joining. Why did you back out. I need these answers i apologize for being so rude.

shaun--for me it was a personal reason, my dad was killed in desert storm, and i always got the answers to my question of how was it, what happened, but in my mind i wasnt satisfied, so i joined to learn the answers i guess i so desperatly wanted, and ended up learning those answers, and also learning more about myself more than anything...can i ask why you joined?

I havent yet but i am going to. For when i join my family must be taken care of. I love them they are my life. I need to know my brother isn't going to make the same mistakes i did. I am going to join though. My reasoning is that i want to end up in arlington. I will end up there its what i was born to do. I have wanted it since i was a wee lil tot. But i will try my hardest to prove my worth.

best of luck shaun you def have the mentality to achieve what you are setting out to do...appreciate a person who knows what they want

alanna..sorry i could pass this and not say anything it just i dunno is getting to me..i see the post where you say your still immature and want a family and if you join you might not have that....little something to say to that dear...your not guaranteed that whether you join or not, and as a soldier the last person you want next to you in the field when **** is going down is someone who is afraid, isnt sure they wanna be there, and worries about making it home...civilian life isnt thought about at that moment

the military has many benefits for many individuals but i strongly disagree people should join. enlisting right now will guarantee you deployment to the desert in which i've lost many friends. i signed for 3 years and during my last 6 months i was sent to iraq in which i couldn't do anything about. i ended up serving more time than i contracted for. spending 4 years away from home will most definitely change a person, for better or worse.
but if you are to join
Air Force- most chicks but males will be looked down upon.
Marines- hardcore but most casualities due to lack of proper equipment.
GO ARMY- hardcore yet better equipment

but to answer the question.... i believe that some people do it for the money.... some do it for the satisfaction of protecting their country.... some do it to help them get their life straightened up.... i dont think there is one right or wrong answer... just depends on the person

My little brother joined the Marines....he joined because he wanted to travel. He also wanted to be a pilot...well he did go to Germany and he got his pilots license. He got out of the Marines and now he is an FBI Agent...he loves his job!!
I wish you luck on your decision, just let me say this...really think long and hard about it! My son wanted to join and thank God he didn't!! (no offense to anyone, but thats how I feel)
God Bless and stay safe!!!flowerforyou
