I used to carry one also, in California, because of going into the deep woods to cut/store wood for the winter in the Sierra Nevadas.

Did you need a reason to get one?

I mainly bought it for when I go camping cause there's a lot of bears and mountain lions in the mountains. I then decided to get the permit just for safety's sake.

A gun in the house for protection makes me very nervous. Something about shooting someone by mistake just because they knew they were welcome to visit without knocking or killing someone who wanted only to steal some food or other replaceable things or because I heard a 'bump' in the night and my fears got the better of me....can't shoot if you don't have a gun handy. Have had hunting guns of all types in my home, locked and with ammo locked separately. Just my opinion of course but it seems to me that people who have a gun for protection are, on some level, waiting to use it. I personally know three people who were killed in their homes by 'empty' guns or guns meant to protect, all three were killed by loved ones, accidentally. Three to many and not a chance I am willing to take or allow to be taken in my home.

I have a knife...Don't particularly care for guns, but respect the right to own a weapon of your choice for defense.

awesome! congrats. it's not an easy decision to use lethal force, so PLEASE don't ever pull your weapon unless you are positive you WILL put a round down range

Here in the UK even our normal on duty police officers do not carry guns, and I do believe we are better for it, despite the fact that only last week two female police officers were, tragically, shot and killed in an incident with an on the run murder suspect in the city of Manchester. This is a very rare event I am pleased to say, and it is some years since a police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty in the UK, our police even now do not carry a firearm. There are however rapid response units who do carry firearms and are deployed when needed. I see no reason why we as members of the general public need to carry a weapon of any description during the course of our everyday lives. I do understand that in other countries venturing in to the wilderness does require some means of protection. To carry a firearm in our normal everyday life is to invite trouble, not to prevent it in my opinion, if someone threatened to rob me with a gun I would sooner loose my money and not my life.

I had mine, since Anderson first introduced the conceal permit. Here in Colorado Springs.
